Amy Bishop, the University of Alabama at Huntsville University professor charged with shooting to death three colleagues, doesn’t remember last Friday’s shooting and is probably insane, defense attorney Roy Miller told the Associated Press Thursday.

Miller said Bishop, who also allegedly wounded three other professors in the spree, has severe mental disorders, including perhaps paranoid schizophrenia. “She just doesn’t remember shooting these folks,” Miller told the AP. But, he added, she is now “aware of what she’s done. She’s very sorry for it.”’

Bishop is being held without bond on charges of capital murder and attempted murder.

In illustrating Bishop’s mental problems, Miller said the Harvard grad tends to obsess on issues of minor consequence. “She gets at issue with people that she doesn’t need to and obsesses on it.”

Madison County District Attorney Robert Broussard said the defense could “have at it” with regards to a mental defense. “We’ll be ready when it comes to court,” he told AP. Broussard added his office has not decided whether to seek the death penalty.
