DLA Piper Losing Former Senator to JPMorgan

Former U.S. Senator and HUD secretary Mel Martinez is leaving DLA Piper for JP Morgan Chase & Co, the company said in a press release. Martinez is slated to serve as JP Morgan’s chairman of Florida, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.

Martinez joined DLA Piper’s Orlando office last fall after serving a term in the U.S. Senate from 2004 to 2009. Martinez, who also served in the cabinet of George W. Bush from 2001 to 2003, will be on JPMorgan Chase’s executive committee. He will represent the firm at the most senior levels to clients, from businesses to large corporations to non-profits and governments.

“I leave DLA Piper with warm relationships with many of its lawyers around the world, which I know will continue,” Martinez said in a statement.
