John Ensign, a former Nevada Senator, resigned from office earlier this month before an imminent investigation by the Senate Ethics Committee. A top Republican and prospective candidate for the Republican nomination in 2012, Ensign admitted to an extramarital affair with one of his staffers, Cindy Hampton, in 2009. The committee was to question him on his efforts to find lobbying work for his former staffer’s husband, as well as the nature of gifts from the Ensign Family Trust Fund to the Hamptons.
