Roche Molecular Systems, Inc. has retained the rights to its HIV measurement methods procedure, according to a supreme Court decision handed down in June of 2011. The court ruled 7-2 that Stanford University does not automatically gain the rights to Roche’s process. The ruling indicates that while the law does say that government contractors may choose to retain title in inventions that are funded by the federal government, title is not automatically granted by this fact.
