Michigan Lottery Winner Still Collecting Food Stamps

Amanda Clayton is one of the laziest women in the United States right now. Clayton won $1 million from the Michigan lottery last year but she continues to collect welfare. Following a television expose about her she was forced to defend herself. Clayton said,

“I feel that it’s okay [to receive welfare] because I mean, I have no income and I have bills to pay. I have two houses.”

Clayton opted to receive a one-time payment of $500,000 in September instead of receiving money in annual payments. She took some of the money to purchase a new car and then she decided to purchase a second home with the remainder of the money. When she purchased the car and the home she paid for them using cash.

Clayton displayed shock when she found out that she is still eligible for $200 per month in food stamps.

“I thought they would cut me off, but since they didn’t, I thought maybe it was okay because I’m not working.”

Because of Clayton’s situation, one of the Michigan House of Representatives is pushing for a bill that would have lottery winners reassessed when it comes to public assistance. The bill would have lottery winners who take home more than $1,000 re-assessed.

“We need to continue to protect our taxpayers’ dollars … and taxpayer dollars should be going to those who really do need assistance,” Michigan Rep. Dale Zorn of Ida Township said.
