Priscilla Dang decided to go out for a run in Vancouver, Washington last week when she was approached by two teenagers on bicycles. The two teens, ages 16 and 18, approached her from behind.

“One went in front and made eye contact with me like a smirk, like I thought he was saying ‘Hi,'” Dang said. “The next thing I knew I was pretty much groped on my bottom behind left side.”

This is when the incident took an unfortunate turn for the teens, who had no way of knowing what type of training Dang has. Since she was five-years-old, Dang has been training in kung-fu. In fact, Dang’s family owns the Summit Wushu Academy, a martial arts studio in Oregon.

Without any warning, Dang pushed one of the gropers to the ground and forced him to apologize to her. Then, when the other teen called Dang a derogatory term, Dang began hitting him in the face while avoiding his punches. The teen then pulled a knife out and Dang used his own bike as a shield against the knife until a passerby called 911.

“I think they knew they messed with the wrong girl,” Dang said.

Sheriff’s deputies apprehended the two teens not far from the scene, which they were able to flee from despite Dang’s efforts. Fourth-degree assault charges were filed against the 18-year-old attacker and the 16-year-old attacker will be judged by a juvenile prosecutor.
