A press conference is in the works by the attorneys for the former president of Penn State. The attorneys will use the press conference to rebut inaccuracies in the report that determined Graham Spanier hid child sex-abuse allegations made against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. One of the lawyers for Spanier, Peter Vaira, informed the Associated Press that there are “many, many errors” in the Louis Freeh report. Freeh is the former director of the FBI. The attorneys are planning to hold the press conference sometime next week in Philadelphia.
The Penn State board of trustees hired Freeh so he could investigate the allegations involved in the Jerry Sandusky scandal that rocked the university. The report issued by Freeh was released on July 12 and it stated that former head football coach Joe Paterno, two other officials from the school and Spanier all hid the allegations against Sandusky back in 2001. They did so to protect the school and the football program from bad publicity.
Spanier was removed from his post as president of the school not long after Sandusky was arrested by police. Spanier has yet to be charged with a crime in the case and is still a tenured faculty member at the school. He was placed on sabbatical, which ends in December.
