According to a state police report released by Lt. J. Paul Vance, Trooper Huntsman was part of the group of emergency personnel and first responders who rushed to the spot and did investigation.
When Scalesse’s family reported to the police that they could not account for some jewelry, cash, and clothing that should have been with Scalesse, the police led a search. The clothing could be located at the hospital where the victim was taken to, but the jewelry or cash couldn’t be found.

State police detectives conducted interviews with various people, led searches, and examined evidence to find out the whereabouts of the missing property. Ultimately, the police found the missing jewelry and also a large amount of cash in Huntsman’s police car. Apparently, Huntsman had missed logging in the evidence, and had kept them in his car for safety.
However, as of now, all police powers of Huntsman has been suspended and he has been arrested and charged for larceny and on other charges as mentioned.
As Huntsman is a police veteran of 18 years, it is difficult to assume straightaway that Huntsman’s helping nature led him to help himself to the victim’s property, finding that the victim was beyond help; only the trial would discover the truth.
Until then, the trooper stands accused.
