Hey everyone! Enjoying your short week? Tomorrow is FRIDAY! Today’s Thursday Thoughts are a little different, because I’ve got a giveaway that I’m VERY excited about at the bottom! So let’s get things started!
1. I have to clean out my room at my parents house. My mother wants to move in the next few years, so she thought now would be the best time for me to get rid of anything I wouldn’t want after they move. While doing this, I found a diary from 1995. I was 7 years old. It’s fantastic.
Hoboochy = Hibachi (a restaurant) and yes, Reiko is the correct spelling of my friend’s name. Barritt is not.
Here’s the day my first younger cousin was born, Elizabeth! Good thing she turned out cute, who knows what I would have said otherwise…
Awesome spelling…
2. My IT band hasn’t improved much (I’ve maxed out at 4 miles before I have to stop) so I saw a doctor here in Kansas City. He told me, among other things, to take at least a month off of running. I’m trying to pretend I’m okay with it, but I kinda want to punch something. Maybe I should take up boxing?
3. I went to a restaurant here in Kansas City called Café Gratitude. Their food is local, organic and plant based. They had a LOT of raw food on their menu and there was so much I wanted to try. I enjoyed the food, although had an issue with their service… Hopefully it’s just because they’re new. Here’s my “I Am Nourished” live wrap:
4. My dad likes to find projects around our house. He decided the garbage smasher thing needed fixing… Enough said.
5. Okay, okay okay, I won’t torture you any longer! GIVEAWAY TIME!
Remember when I reviewed Chef Earl’s products a couple weeks ago? Well, the lovely people at Good Foods would like one of my readers to receive the same delicious snack packs that I got!
All Good Foods products are 100% all natural, with no artificial flavors or colors, no preservatives, no GMOs, and they use HPP for food safety and extended shelf life. HPP (High Pressure Processing) is an energy-saving process that uses cold water pressure to safely pasteurize food. I’d never heard of HPP but it sounds like a really interesting way to pasteurize food without using chemicals.
Good Foods sent me their new single servers, of Hot Giardiniera Hummus, Chunky Guacamole and Mild Salsa, all vegan and gluten free.

I enjoy hummus, salsa and guacamole!
1. As a first grade teacher, I have to tell you your spelling/writing is pretty good 🙂
2. Ugh, IT bands. No fun.
3. I’m going to have to check out Cafe Gratitude. (I live in KC!)
4. I got nothin’ on this one. Except that it’s nice your dad is handy. In my house, we would have just shrugged and said, “Ah, well, guess it’s broken…”
5. Yum!

Sorry to hear about your knee. I had to take a bunch of time off this summer too which was no fun. At least you’re taking the time off in the winter so that once it gets really nice you’ll be able to run outside again?! (always trying to look on the bright side 🙂 ) In any case, ask about maybe swimming or aqua-jogging (aka pool running). They’re both pretty non-impact and helped me to stay somewhat sane when I couldn’t run. Good luck!
I’d like to try their guacamole! It’s my favorite food! Sorry about your IT band! Sounds a lot like mine
my mom had me clean through my room when i went back home. it was so weird going through all my old stuff. pretty crazy!
Oh my gosh, those diaries entries are great. I love looking through old things like that. I kept a diary when I was around that age, too. I remember constantly writing about cats. Funny, because I’m 100% a dog person now…
I follow you both on Twitter. 🙂 This is a great giveaway, thanks!
I’d love to try some Chef Earl!
I love looking at my old diaries too. It’s so funny to read what was important to me when I was little!
I think there is a Cafe Gratitude in my hometown…I’ve heard chatter about it, but have yet to try it.
Chef Earls is always sampling at Whole Foods and it’s delicious!
I’ll take up boxing with you! My foot is injured fo’ sho’ again and I want to punch something as well.
I’m DYING at your journal. I like when you say you’re friend is sleeping over but you’re sad.
love it.
Yum I would love to try those!!!
And I tweeted!
obsessed with guacamole! those diary entries are great. haha I have a bunch of those from when i was younger too. They’re so funny to look back at!
bummer about the IT band. I would suggest listening to the doctor. Taking the 4 weeks off for my stress fracture seriously did my body a whole lot of good – not just my foot. My back feels better now and my hips don’t feel nearly as tight or achy as they used to. Best of luck! Ps – that guac sounds incredible!

I’ve been trying to cut out all processed foods in the new year, and so far it already feels amazing! Can’t wait to try out Chef Earl’s!
I tweeted about the giveaway!
It sucks your IT band still is getting any better but I think taking a month off will probably help a ton in the long run. Unfortunately you’ll probably have to ease back into to running after that to prevent re-injuring it. Just remember a month off is nothing compared to if it is injured long term!
I kept my journals from when I was younger. It is sooo fun to be able to go back when reading them. Some stuff is very hilarious!
Their guac sounds so good!
Ok, besides really wanting to win the giveaway you should so take up boxing. I mean it, my aunt loves it and it got her in great fitness shape. I am sorry about the IT band stuff
I follow you both on twitter!
I like you both on facebook.
hahaha I love #1… When I was home over Christmas, my sister found a couple letters I wrote her when we were little. It was hilarious. It’s always fun to find stuff like that!
You should take up CrossFit! You can modify any of the WODs and lifts to avoid injury to your IT band 🙂

That is so cool that your discovered notes from when you were a kid. My dad is a huge project fixer as well. Stay positive through your injury even though it may seem that it is impossible. 🙂 good luck
Yum, I love hummus!
So sorry about your IT band, taking time off sucks. When I was out for my stress fracture, I planned all of my workouts around my gym’s classes so that I had something to do almost every day. It really helped me focus on what I was doing instead of what I couldn’t do. Maybe that will help you too?
i looooooooooooove hummus!!!
And is that a chain restaurant you went to? I swear they have the same restaurant in LA!!
We really liked Cafe Gratitude! We went on a Sunday morning and were some of the only guests and had good service. I remember I had an amazing shake. Have you tried Fud?
Sorry about your IT band!
I’m so sorry to hear about your IT band. I’ve had pain in my lower left calf for about a week now. I’ve been taking it easy with the running but it still won’t go away and it’s starting to scare me! I couldn’t imagine no running for a month 🙁
Oh man, when I moved out of my parent’s house in June, I found so many old diaries. I was never consistent about writing in my diary when I was really little, but the stuff I would write about…haha. I’ve kept a daily diary since September 2001, and I think it’s actually really healthy to go back and look at what I’ve written every now and again. For me, at least, reading through old diaries gives me a lot of perspective on whatever is bugging me at the moment. It’s fine that the cutest boy in sixth grade never liked me. I did fine on my AP Bio exam. Even though I had a mountain of homework, I still survived every single year of college. Honestly, even looking at the things I wrote last month or last week usually seem less important with the advantage of hindsight. It’s a helpful way for me to remember that I’ll get through whatever I’m dealing with, no matter how awful it seems at the time.
Those diary entries are hysterical! I found a love letter to my 7th grade boyfriend a few weeks ago. I guess I never gave it to him?
YUMMO! Id love to try those 🙂
Happy New Year! I hope your IT band heals soon.
I tweeted about this giveaway.
I’ve been to Cafe Gratitude in Berkeley, CA; I had no idea they had a location in Kansas City! I remember the food being quite tasty, though the service there was slow and a bit stand-offish. Nomm! We tried the deep dish pizza, which a pretty cute idea.
that’s so funny that your dad likes to find things to fix, my dad is the opposite! definitely not a handyman haha 😉
I love reading my old journals hahaha…always full of entertainment 😉 and I’m sorry to hear about your iT band hun…i’d feel the exact same way…def look into boxing or kickboxing! Maybe with less kicks and more boxing 😉

What a lovely giveaway!
Liked both of you on facebook. 🙂
I feel your pain with the IT band issue. I haven’t been able to run more than a quarter of a mile since the end of September without extreme pain. I’ve been going to PT twice a week since November, seen multiple doctors, had cortisone injections, stretching/strengthening, ASTYM for weeks and it almost feels worse. Working on my feet all day is a nightmare and it’s gotten to the point where even the elliptical is painful. My doctor and I have decided to do surgery as sort of a last ditch effort to get things back to normal. I’ll let you know how that turns out and whether or not I think it’s worth it!
Liked you on facebook!
Hot giardiniera hummus sounds amazing!
