Thousands of people in Great Falls, Montana might have thought that the zombie apocalypse was upon them, if they believe in such a thing, on Monday. Someone hacked into the emergency alert system at KRTV-TV in Great Falls.
The system was hacked while “The Steve Wilkos Show” was being aired on the channel. The alert system broadcast said that “dead bodies are rising from their graves” in various counties throughout the state.
The warning issued on the television channel told those watching that they should not try to apprehend the zombies, but instead seek shelter and stay as safe as possible. Despite there not being a zombie apocalypse, KRTV-TV felt that it was necessary to inform viewers on the air and on the internet than the report on their channel about the zombies was inaccurate and in fact false.
“This message did not originate from KRTV, and there is no emergency,” the station explained. “Our engineers are investigating to determine what happened and if it affected other media outlets.”
According to Gawker, the station has not been able to determine who hacked into their alert system or how it happened. Gawker also speculated if it was a marketing ploy for the AMC series on “The Walking Dead.”
