The lawsuit was filed in Florida state court and follows an investigation made by a weekly Miami newspaper in the activities of the clinic, which revealed hand-written records. The defendants are accused of interfering with MLB’s drug prevention and treatment program, which prohibits players from using performance-enhancing drugs.
Court documents mentioned at least six players including New York Yankees shortstop Alex Rodriguez, and Texas Rangers slugger Nelson Cruz. Other players named in the documents included Marcelo Albir, a former baseball player for the University of Miami.
However, none of the players were defendants in the actual lawsuit, and all of them have previously denied any association with either Biogenesis or Bosch.
The lawsuit also mentioned one Jan Carlos Nunez, who used to act as a link between the clinic and the agents for several baseball players, and it also mentioned one Paulo da Silveira who allegedly provided drugs to Biogenesis.
The lawsuit asks for “monetary damages and other relief resulting from the defendants’ tortuous interference with MLB’s contractual relationships” and alleges that the defendants hurt the sports of baseball due to “the costs of investigation, loss of goodwill, loss of revenue and profits, and injury to its reputation.”
