Can you sense the sarcasm in my title? Haha today’s What I Ate Wednesday doesn’t really follow the “green” theme for March, unless you count my green frozen yogurt spoon! But hey, no one eats perfectly all the time, so here’s a look at all my food from yesterday!
If you’re new to WIAW, head on over to Peas and Crayons to find out what it’s all about and to see the other participating bloggers!
I woke up a little later than normal (about 6:30), did some blog work and then around 8 headed to the gym. Normally I wake up hungry but I had zero appetite. I figured I should have something in my system before my “long” run, so I ate a Clif Shot Blok before heading out.
Guess how far my long run was?
FIVE MILES!
I cannot tell you the last time I ran five miles. I’m taking it slow getting back into distances, but I’ve got a 10K coming up in a week and a half, so I figured I should get in a couple longer runs so I don’t die. It’s another Muddy Monk Trail Run, so it’s just for fun, but I still want to do well! Luckily there will be no snow this time…
When I got back (around 9:45) I threw together breakfast: Oatbran (with almond milk, water, cinnamon, stevia and 1 tsp psyllium husk powder) and fage yogurt with vanilla and stevia mixed in. Quick and easy!
While I was making my breakfast I was SO EXCITED to receive a text from Michelle (at Better with Berries)! She is here in Chicago for a few days during her spring break and I’d been dying to meet her. She also lives in Missouri and we’d been keeping up with each other for at least a year, but never being in the same place at the same time. Well, we finally were! She wanted to try out one of the frozen yogurt places that are here but not in Missouri so we met up at Yogurtland for some frozen yogurt lunch!
They had some new flavors: I got Bananas Foster and Strawberry – AMAZING! I even talked to the manager about the Yogurtland that they’re opening way too close to where I live, and it should be open in May! This could be dangerous for studying for the Bar…
We ended up talking for about an hour and a half, and then I finally had to peel myself away or I’d be late for class! That’s what I love about meeting blog friends – we always end up having so much in common!
During class I had a decaf coffee (actually decaf Americano with water… so not as good in my opinion), and I also had a lemon Quest bar. I ordered a variety box online because I love these things… so good.
When I got home I decided it was time for some veggies, so I steamed some kale, topped it with 2 eggs, and then a sauce I made from nutritional yeast, almond milk, and chickpea miso:
After that I tried to make a new microwave muffin… It didn’t turn out quite as planned so I’ll have to keep experimenting. Don’t worry, I ate it anyways, with plenty of almond butter.
Finished off the evening with a Hersey kiss!
Perhaps today I’ll amp up the veggie count…
Do you ever have days where there isn’t a vegetable in sight?
Where is your favorite kind of place to meet up with friends?
Almond butter makes everything better! Froyo sounds like a great place to meet with a new friend! I keep hearing about the flavors our local one doesn’t have and always want to try them!
I think Yogurtland is the winner for crazy flavors – I’ve never seen a froyo place with so many inventive ones!
mmm bananas foster fro yo sounds amazing!
Oh my gosh, it was so good!
A day when there’s fro-yo can never be a bad day 😉 I have those days sometimes where veggies seem extinct! But I just try to get some extra in the next day!
That’s my plan!
Oh yes, some days I don’t have veg! Nothing wrong with that girl! It just works out like that some days right!?!?
Al of your eats do look amazing though! I found myself looking at them for such a long time! I haven’t had oat bran in such a long time and yours looked HEAVENLY!
I’m so happy you met Michelle! She’s one of my favourites and I haven’t even met her in REAL LIFE! You lucky duck 😉
That banana fosters fro yo would have been sooooo delicious! YUM!
Congrats on your 5 miles 😀 WAY TO GO GIRL!
Haha, I’m very lucky, I’ve been trying to meet up with Michelle for so long since we’re both in Kansas City often!
I love my veggies, but eating them all the time is overrated. Froyo lunches are totally necessary once in a while!
I like the way you think!
Ummmm I don’t think I’ve eaten a vegetable in weeks. I blame it on the babies.
Haha I totally thought of you when I was writing this post.
Congrats on running 5 miles! That’s awesome that you are getting better. I have had a day where there was no vegetable in sight and I actually felt really off. Are they opening a yogurt land in lp because I am going to go nuts if they open one up there!
Thanks, Christina! And weirdly I didn’t feel off at all… The Yogurtland I went to is at Division and State, but they are opening one in late May up in Lincoln Park!
Wow, bananas foster froyo sounds delicious! I’ve lived in Chi for a few years now and I still haven’t been to Yogurtland yet. Must go soon!
I am also running the Muddy Monk 10k in April! It will be my first trail run, so hopefully it will be fun.
The Yogurtland is actually new! It opened this January. And yay for the Muddy Monk 10K, be sure to say hi!!
Just did my first 5 mile run in quite some time this past Sunday! Training for a half marathon this October so I have plenty of time, but trying to gain my distance back as well. Good luck, and keep on truckin’! : )
Congrats on your 5 miler!!!
I love your hair in the picture with Michelle! Looks like you were having a fantastic hair day 🙂 Mine lately has been reacting badly to the cold weather and instead of being smooth and curly has been puffy and oh-so-frizzy. haha.
Great idea with the pin-it buttons too. So helpful.
Haha I WAS having a great hair day!!!
Most of your eats still look pretty healthy to me! I love blogger meetups. I went to one for Pittsburgh bloggers back in August and it was a blast. One of the girls there and I still see each other regularly and she’s become such a good friend of mine!
That’s great that you made a friend out of the meet up – all my good friends here in Chicago are bloggers!
That shirt is TOTES cute on you! LOVES IT!
Me too! It’s a little bigger than I’d like but I’m hoping it will be fine once I wash it.
Hey at least you got some kale in there :P.
Where do you buy your psyllium husk powder? Or do you know where you can buy the husks? I have a recipe that calls for them and on my 20 second look around the bulk bin at my WF I couldn’t find them.
Haha I got home and thought – I MUST eat something green! I ordered mine online a while ago… I got the Now foods brand.
I have had days where theres no veggies in sight unfortunately. Luckily its not often though but it definitely has happened!
I think sometimes that’s just how the circumstances work out!
Congrats on the 5 miles!
Thanks, Sarah!
Oh I LOVE Michelle! How fun that you ladies got to meet up! I’ve been slacking in the greens department myself these last couple days. I need to step it up today! It happens.
Haha I think you have a good excuse!
I actually love to meet friends for something active. Sometimes meeting friends for coffee or lunch to catch up gets old. It’s nice to go for a hike instead! Get moving & have plenty of time to chat. I rarely have days without veggies, but it happens, & it feels weird!
Oh I wish I could meet friends for a hike! None of that around here though…
Mmmm . . . froyo sounds delicious. I think I should treat myself to some soon. It is my spring break, after all! 🙂
Most definitely!
I would like to go to Yogurtland too!
You must if you’re ever near one!
I do but not very often! I’m a veggie nut! 🙂
I think all your meals (probably minus breakfast) contain veggies!
Wait…there’s a Yogurtland in Chicago? Where is this? I usually go to Forever Yogurt, but need to try this!
At Division and State!
FROOOOOO YOOOOOOO! yummy 🙂 I really really like yogurtland.
And I want to try a questbar!
omg you MUST try quest bars!!!
Oh yum that fro yo looks amazing..id definitely be meeting up with my friends all the time there if there was one near me; we normally just go for coffee or something :).
congrats on running your 5 miles too..woo!
Coffee is good too!
I have plenty of veggie-less days it seems, but they’re usually followed up with veggie-full days, I think it all balances out! Case in point: ate lots of ice cream, candy, you name it this weekend, and today I was craving a salad!
Very true, Meghan, it’s all about balance!
I definitely have these kind of days – actually, I just had one yesterday. Veggies are great, but on the days I’m not feeling them, there’s no use in forcing it. I used to make sure to get a lot of veggies in every day, but to be honest, it really didn’t do much for me. I find that I’m a lot healthier now that I’m eating whatever I want than I was back then… and happier too 🙂
I agree – sometimes I’m just not feeling it or they aren’t doing anything good for my stomach!
That sauce with nutritional yeast, almond milk, and chickpea miso sounds amazing!! Do you know the exact measurements that you used?? 😉
Lol no, I just toss it all in there. I’d guess about 1 T chickpea miso, 1 T nutritional yeast, and then maybe 1/4th+ cup of almond milk? I also add a little garlic powder and pepper if I think of it.
5 miles is awesome! I have total veg-less days too…I try to make sure I have some at at least 2/3 meals, but sometimes that just doesn’t seem to happen…and then you crave them later!
Exactly, I was craving veggies today!
Yayyyyyyyy for your long run 🙂 I can’t wait to hear how the race goes! Froyo places are the best place to meet anyone! And I have those veggie-less days around once a week…I’m a carb girl through and through 😉
Haha some days are just carb days!
Meeting a blend and running five miles both in one day is fantastic! That’s such a cute picture of Michelle and you, too. I hope you’ll get the chance to meet up more often.
With the lack of Froyo stores around here cafés are my favourite place to meet friends. There are some cute ones around here having a nice and cozy atmosphere which is just awesome.
It was a great day! And Cafes are perfect for meeting friends, especially since people can get food or just a tea depending on what they feel like!
That’s so cool you could meet up! I’ve only been able to meet up with one other blogger and it was at a froyo place too 🙂
They’re perfect for blogger meet ups since we all seem to love froyo!
Even though veggies were only seen at dinner that day, you had a wonderful day of eats with plenty of variety! The frozen yogurt was the best part of course 😉 and the lemon quest bar too, I really liked that flavor and was surprised! Yummm
There are more and more days that I find myself lacking veggies and it’s a-okay with me!
omg I Looooove the lemon quest bar! I knew I would though, lemon bars were my favorite dessert growing up!
5 miles is amazing! Deserving of some yummy frozen yogurt.
Thanks, Natalie!
Haha yep there are definitely days where I don’t eat a single vegetable. But there are also days when I eat a ton of them! I figure it all balances out.
Congrats on your 5 miles! That must be so exciting to hit those longer distances again. 🙂
I agree, or at least I hope it all balances out!
I used to worry on days that I didn’t get my veggies in, but now I’ve learned to accept that it just happens sometimes, and I just try to get an extra serving in the next day!
That’s a good attitude, Emma!
I have a Yogurtland right across the street from my campus and it is a very dangerous location haha!
Haha so close!!!
[…] worry, we’re getting closer to the weekend! My week has been quite interesting, with getting to meet Michelle for the first time and a few school events, it’s been busy! Good thing my morning class on Monday […]
Yayyyy!!! I am finally back home, unpacked, and can catch up on my favorite blogs 🙂 I was so excited to come check out your WIAW from our froyo date! I had so much fun meeting you!
Also, after I went to the gigantic Whole Foods you told me about, I talked it up so much to Craig that we went back the next day. Twice. 🙂
HAha I’m glad you liked the WF so much!!!
That sounds like such an awesome day! I love getting a good run in…({5 miles is the most I’ve run too]) and then having a wonderful rest of the day after. I live just outside of Milwaukee, WI and we don’t have any Yogurtland’s up here, but we do have quite a few other really good froyo places. Such a fun place to go with all the flavors and toppings! Can’t go wrong!!
5 is actually the most I’ve run in a few months – I did a marathon this past fall! I’ve been injured since late October, but working my way back! Hopefully you’ll be getting Yogurtland in the next year or so, they just started coming to the Midwest!
Not every day is perfect food wise, but I think frozen treats with friends sounds pretty ideal to me. Looks good to me.
Sometimes it’s okay to not get a boatload of veggies. You did get some kale! I have NEVER had froyo. I want to try it soo bad!! I think it would be awesome to meet blog friends! I don’t have any that I’m close to though.. I’m more of a creeper, following and commenting!
