2800 Legal Jobs Added in July

After two months of job shed and depressed growth, the legal industry has added 2800 jobs. The data released this past Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics suggests that the legal industry is picking up.  Additionally, the Bureau of Labor Statistics revised downward its May and June job los figures, adding back around 1700 jobs over May and June.

Ultimately the legal sector has lost around 2000 jobs in the past four months. In April, the legal sector held 1.129 million people in employment. This number is its highest since 2009. Currently 1.127 million people currently hold legal jobs, according to the American Lawyer. 3800 more people are currently employed in the legal industry than there were 12 month ago.

This is great sign for the legal industry and an even better one for law graduates and prospective students considering law school. As all entities adjust to their times, growth and expansion is code for happy times. Though the current numbers fall short of analysts’ expectations as many expected a faster recovery, the U.S. economy is also experiencing an upturn, and the economy is expanding. 162,000 jobs have been added and the unemployment rate is down by .2 percent. The upturn is happening, even if it is at a slow pace.
