Morehouse College Launches Undergraduate Law Journal

Two seniors at Morehouse College have launched an undergraduate law review in efforts to encourage their fellow students to pursue law as well as to promote the schools prelaw program. Seniors Amal Yamusah and Aaron Francis realize that law school is even more expensive and that the lawyer job market is tougher than before. The commented that people come into college wanting to be lawyers, but at the end of their years at university, their enthusiasm dies down. “I don’t know what turns people off, maybe [taking] the LSAT or the prep stuff, or that legal writing requires you to read carefully and closely,” according to dailyreportonline.com

The pair wanted to start a law journal to help their schools pre-law program get a boost as well as to have an outstanding citation in their applications when they apply to law schools. The pair wanted to “create a sense of legal scholarship” that they both felt was missing.

The first issue will tentatively be published Oct. 24. The journal will have approximately 10 articles, of which 7 will be written by undergraduates and the other three by law students or law practitioners.  Professors at the school are supportive and some have taken advisory roles to assist the fledgling journal take flight.
