Judge Allows Snapchat to Keep its Representation

Quinn Emanuel will represent the company Snapchat in their case against Reggie Brown. Brown filed a suit as he claimed that Snapchat was his idea, and that he was “wrongfully kicked out of the company by co-founders Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy,” according to tech crunch.com. Reggie Brown seeks what he feels is his one-third stake in the company that is valuated at $267 million. Other co-founders Spiegel and Murphy admit that Snapchat was Brown’s idea, however they add that Brown never had equity in the venture.

The firm representing Brown, Lee Tran & Liang filed a motion to disqualify Quinn Emanuel from representing Snapchat. They contend that Brown had worked with and consulted for Quinn Emanuel attorney Anthony Aiden. Brown had sent files to Quinn Emanuel and because of this, Lee Tran & Liang argued that Snapchat should not be represented by Quinn Emanuel. Perhaps they are trying to say here that this would be a conflict of interest, however the judge denied the motion to disqualify Quinn Emanual from representing Snapchat.

Lee Tran & Liang commented, “we disagree with but respect the Court’s decision. We will evaluate our options but regardless of what we decide to do, we look forward to litigating this case on the merits to get Mr. Brown his rightful third in Snapchat.”
