Actor Tom Cruise has settled a defamation case against Bauer Publishing, according to CNN Entertainment. The tabloid magazines In Touch and Life & Style appeared to make it seem he “abandoned” his seven year old daughter Suri after his divorce with actress and Suri’s mother Katie Holmes. The Life & Style cover in 2012 read, “SURI IN TEARS, ABANDONED BY HER DAD.” The In Touch cover story also read, “44 DAYS WITHOUT TOM … ABANDONED BY DADDY … Suri is left heartbroken as Tom suddenly shuts her out and even misses her first day of school… HAS HE CHOSEN SCIENTOLOGY OVER SURI FOR GOOD?” The tabloid publisher insists they didn’t mean any harm with the stories and that there was a misunderstanding. Public relations director for both magazines commented the magazines never “intended to communicate that Tom Cruise had cut off all ties and abandoned his daughter, Suri, and regret if anyone drew that inference from anything they published.”
The suit has been settled and everything is back to normal. The terms of the settlement have not been disclosed and it can never be refiled after it was dismissed “with prejudice.” Cruise agreed to the settlement and each party paid for their own legal fees in the situation.

Defending himself, Cruise has stated, “I have in no way cut Suri out of my life — whether physically, emotionally, financially or otherwise.” He also said he often brought Suri to set which “allowed me to see my daughter while still fulfilling my obligations to my work, my colleagues, and the studios that hire me.”
Cruise is famous for the Mission Impossible films, Top Gun, Risky Business, The Firm, Jerry Maguire, War of the Worlds and perhaps his best performance as the vampire Lestat in Interview With The Vampire (also starring Brad Pitt). Most recently he has showcased a new variety of talent for offbeat films like Tropic Thunder, surprising both Hollywood and his fans. He even sang successfully in the film version of Rock of Ages.
