Scarf Leads to Woman’s Death in Montreal

The scene is like something out of a ghastly horror flick, only this is where Police said the woman was in cardiac arrest when firefighters and paramedics arrived, and she where she was declared dead at the scene.

The entrance of the Metro at Jean-Talon Street East and Fabre Street was closed for several hours. According to CBC News a 48 year old woman was strangled after her scarf and then her hair became caught in an escalator at a Montreal subway station. A bystander reported that while she was trying to pull up her scarf from the escalator, her hair got caught too. The incident happened at an unsupervised automatic entrance to the Metro station on the blue line according to CBC News Montreal.

Tragically, Bassam Joubarani saw the woman lying on the floor at the bottom of the escalators, says she was breathing but unconscious and that there were people trying to help her.

Isabelle Tremblay spokeswoman for Société de transport de Montréal said all the escalators in Montreal’s Metro station are up to code. Montreal’s transit authority refused to comment on the incident. Montreal police are working with the coroner’s office in order to determine what exactly happened during the incident. For employment in Montreal, click here.
