Summary: Uber is facing another lawsuit from a woman in Texas that wants the company to take better responsibility for their drivers after her driver, a convicted felon, raped her.
A Dallas, Texas woman states that the $50 billion company is responsible for a driver that raped her in her home. The woman filed the lawsuit holding the technology company civilly liable since they do not properly screen their driver’s backgrounds.

The driver named in the lawsuit, Talal Ali Chammout, is a convicted felon. He was first convicted in 1995 for felony assault and then again in 2007 for felony possession of firearms. He served 6 ½ years in federal prison before being released in 2012. He used a fake city of Dallas permit with Uber to get his company, Triple Class Limousines, approved.
The woman claims Chammout followed her inside her home, hit her on the back of the head, and then sexually assaulted her. Uber states that his account was marked as inactive but was accidentally made so that he could access the site and potential clients.
There have been allegations of rape and sexual assault by Uber drivers in Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Orlando, Washington D.C., and New Delhi, India.
Quentin Brogdon at Crain Lewis Brodgon in Dallas will be representing the woman. He states “the main reason we filed the lawsuit is to finally make Uber change its policies and procedures in a meaningful way to ensure that the drivers in places in cars with passengers – many of them young women – pose no safety threat to those passengers.”
