Summary: A Kentucky clerk has been made an example of by a district judge that placed her under arrest for not being willing to abandon her belief in God.
A hearing today found Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis in contempt of court for not issuing marriage licenses to gay couples. The Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples have the right to marry in every state but they didn’t provide guidelines as to how those that religiously object to the ruling should be treated.

Davis believes God has the highest authority and will not disobey him in order to follow a flawed government. Now U.S. District Judge David Bunning is punishing her for standing up for her beliefs by making her stay in the custody of U.S. marshals until she complies. The gay couple that asked for her to be found in contempt was seeking a financial punishment but the judge felt it was not enough and that she needed to be made an example of for any others that were thinking of defying orders.
Bunninng stated, “Her good-faith belief is simply not a viable defense. Oaths mean things.” His statement is deeply flawed because those with religious beliefs take oaths to follow God’s commandments. Oaths do mean things but that does not mean that people uphold them and get thrown in jail when they don’t. If that were the case, think of how many people would be in jail for getting a divorce.
Unfortunately for Davis, she is living in a country that no longer respects morals and would be best to quit her job and move on.
