Illinois gaming law not ready to be implemented

Lawyers in Illinois hoping to cash in on a recent law allowing video poker machines to be installed in bars may have to wait a bit longer.  The Illinois Gaming Board, charged with licensing and regulating the machines and the companies that own them said this week that it will not be ready to begin issuing licenses by the September 1st deadline.

The Video Gaming Act was passed in July of this year as part of a plan to pay for $29 Billion in statewide construction projects.  Implementation of the act was tasked to the Illinois Gaming Board, but no funding was provided by the General Assembly.

The new law is expected to create a new industry for lawyers who will guide clients through the licensing process.  One firm, Ungaretti & Harris, announced a new chairman for their gaming practice group and anticipates expanding that group to handle the influx of new clients.  Other Illinois firms with practices in gaming law include Shefsky & FroelichGreenberg Traurig and Mayer Brown.

  1. I’ll bet you the Gambling Boats are very happy now that their Lobbyists have done their job seeing to it that Bars are not going to see any legal machines in place for a long time. Shucks ,i wonder who they paid off this time! This is the worst damn state to live and do business in. You have to fight for every dime you make, first they have us pull out our machines and then they ban smoking. Is this a hint they want us out of business becaus they this is a state full of prudish idiots. Heck,California ,Florida and all the other states with beautiful weather that even Illinoisians travel to for vacations just love the fact our so called representitives help force us out of business fattening their pockets doing so. I wish i had my family someplace else because this is not where i want to stay. Illinois is the worst piece of crap state in the union, known for its crocked politicians George Ryan and Rob Blagoivich just to name the most recent. We really need to worry about attorney’s and crocked lawyers making more money than they do , too.Whats next for us , are they gonna put a sin tax on soda pop (oh sorry probably gave em another idea)? ,Hangin on by a tread
