David Bernick, a senior partner at Kirkland & Ellis and leader of its litigation practice, will be leaving the firm to become senior vice president and general counsel at Philip Morris. Bernick has been with Kirkland & Ellis for 31 years. He starts his new position March 1 and will be based in Lausanne, Switzerland.

“I have spent my entire career at Kirkland & Ellis and I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of one of the top law firms,” Bernick said in a press release. “I will remain close to my many friends and colleagues at the Firm, but I look forward to pursuing new challenges during the next phase of my career with Philip Morris International.”

Kirkland employs approximately 1,500 lawyers with offices in 10 cities around the world.
