Kathleen M. Rice, seen by many as the front-runner to succeed Andrew Cuomo as New York Attorney General, has disclosed over $230,000 in campaign contributions from members of Manhattan law firm Weitz & Luxenberg.  The donations, which amounted to approximately 12 percent of Rice’s campaign contributions during the most recent filing period, have raised the eyebrows of some who suggest the firm may be getting a bit too friendly with Rice.

Jon Pierce, a spokesman for New Yorkers for Lawsuit Reform said, “This is another example of the trial lawyers in New York State trying to increase their already significant influence in Albany.”

Eric Phillips, spokesman for Rice, denied that the contributions were an indication of undue influence: “The campaign has not engaged — and will not engage — in policy discussions with [Weitz & Luxenberg].”
