Year of Law School Litigation Targets 20 More

What better way to take pride in your Alma Mater than to sue the hand that feeds you? Team Strauss/Anziska’s David Anziska declared in December of 2011 that 2012 will be “the year of law school litigation.” 12 have already been sued, but why stop there? Anziska says he aims to sue as many law schools as possible in 2012. Indeed, 20 more have been added to the list.

We do not yet know which 20 they are; that information will be revealed in the next few weeks.

As for the schools already sued, there are motions to dismiss the Cooley Law and the NYLS class actions; meanwhile there are also gestures from Anziska at some sort of global settlement. He also seeks a universal change in Law School operations. In an interview, Anziska has said:

“I believe … what will ultimately result is that law school graduates will ultimately result is that the law school graduates will have some type of partial tuition reimbursement, and there will also be substantial injunctive relief in the form of law schools [having] to retain an independent, third-party auditor to audit and verify the numbers. … Law schools are going to have to report 100% accurate information.”

As the year unfolds, we will see if such an attempt will pay off.

  1. The plaintiff’s lawyer suggests a global settlement or partial tuition reimbursement, but none of the defendants have. Does he mean he expects the schools he did not sue to also participate in the global settlement and be subject to the same audit standards, or would these schools then be subject to different rules? It would seem unlikely a school that has not been sued will offer a settlement; it would also seem unlikely that a school whose motion to dismiss is granted would participate.

Also, the pictures with your article are the Law School Transparency guys, not the lawyers filing these cases.
