Local Jews in India are boycotting a particular store because of its name, ‘Hitler,’ according to RT.com. The store is in Ahmedabad and the owner says that the name is a “nickname given to one of the proprietors’ grandfathers.”
“Hitler was a nickname given to my business partner Manish Chandani’s grandfather because of his strict nature. Frankly, till the time we applied for the trademark permission, I had only heard that Hitler was a strict man,” Rajesh Shah said. Shah is the owner of the store.“It was only recently that we read about Hitler on the internet.”
Shah has said multiple times that he is not going to change the banner for the store unless he is paid to do so.
“In the city of Mahatma Gandhi and non-violence, how can anyone celebrate a person like Hitler who is known to have murdered millions of unarmed ordinary civilians? We as a community had represented our concerns to the proprietors and we do not think they agree with us,” Nikitin Contractor said. Contractor is the convener of the Friends of Israel organization. “Youngsters need to be told of the atrocities that Hitler committed and the millions who were killed in gas chambers more than 70 years ago.”
Other members of the community have said that the owner knew what the name Hitler means in history.
“They had researched well, right from the clothes the dictator wore to his cufflinks. We had suggested a separate design, but the proprietors claimed that the name brings good business since its launch a week back.”

I and my partner have decided and promised the state government as well as the Jews community that we will change the name. We are left with no option but the change the name as we were scared because of the odd phone calls as well as external pressures. On Monday, two personnel (identities not revealed) came to the shop and asked me to change the name or else threatened of not leaving the shop till we relent. I also got calls from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to change the name or else they will cancel all kind of registration and certificates given to us.
