Chris Brown Tests Positive for Marijuana

On Monday, a probation report showed that Chris Brown, the R&B singer had tested positive to marijuana in June, leading a Los Angeles judge to set a November hearing for deciding whether he violated terms of his probation stemming from his 2009 assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna. Brown, who has covered almost half of his five-year probation period, produced a medical marijuana card after he tested positive.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg said that mandatory drug testing was not a condition included in Chris Brown’s probation. However, she set a hearing for November 1 to decide whether he was abiding by or violating the terms of his probation and other matters including fulfillment of community service. The judge gave Chris Brown a warning in court telling him to keep in mind that he was a role model.

The judge told Brown, “You are not an ordinary person who can sit in your living room and do whatever you want to do … More importantly, a lot of people look up to you, a lot of kids. What you do and what you say impacts a lot of people.”

Brown was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service after he pleaded guilty to beating Rihanna on the eve of the Grammy awards in 2009. He won a Grammy award earlier this year.

Mark Geragos, Brown’s lawyer, claimed that Brown had “completed all of his community service.” There are also travel restrictions placed on Brown.
