Three Killed by Gunshots in Torrance Old-age Home

On Tuesday, three people were found shot dead in the lobby of a home for senior citizens in Torrance. According to the LA Times which reported the incident on Wednesday, it looks like a murder-suicide at the hand of a resident. Law enforcement and witnesses said the resident had a history of violent outbursts.

A maintenance worker, Arturo Ramirez, spotted the man with a gun, and called 911. Ramirez, who locked himself inside the maintenance office, told the media that he could hear one of the women, a caregiver for about 20 residents plead for her life. He said, “I heard her say, ‘Please, no! Please!’ … Then, I heard two gunshots.”

Authorities have confirmed that one of the victims was an employee of the complex, and even though the killer, a male resident of the facility, used to make violent outbursts and had expressed anger against the two persons killed – the threats had never been reported.

Sgt. Robert Watt of the Torrance Police Department told the LA Times that the killings were done by a handgun and motives for the killings were still being probed.

The man was first seen with a gun, about noon, near the business offices of Golden West Tower, a facility in 3500 block of Maricopa Street. The shooter has not yet been identified pending report from the coroner’s office.
