Thursday Thoughts

AH! Can you believe it’s Thursday already? I can’t. I guess that’s what happens when you miss Monday! Since it’s Thursday, I think it’s time for another rendition of Thursday Thoughts!

1. I’ve picked out TWO Christmas trees this week, neither of which was for me! Well, one is for me to enjoy eventually. First I went with my mom on Monday and then my brother and sister-in-law last night. Like the city folk we all seem to be now, there was no tree farm involved. Just a nursery or Home Depot…

2. The weather here has been pretty dismal ever since I returned from Kansas City. Clouds and fog all around. I’ve found in the past that I’m pretty susceptible to Seasonal Affective Disorder so things are not looking up for me. Sunshine, where are you?

3. Speaking of crummy weather (although it’s been warmer?) I just wanted to curl up and watch a movie. So I decided to take myself to the movies! I went to see Book Thief since it was showing in a smaller theater in my neighborhood. I’d read the book before so I was intrigued to see the movie. It was SO GOOD. Seriously, so good. They did a wonderful job and I loved the actress who played Lisle.

4. While I was at home my mom wanted me to work on cleaning out my room (as usual) and I found this memory box that a friend and I had put together during a sleepover. The NEXT DAY I ran into her and her mom on Monday while my mom and I were grabbing lunch! She was my best friend from Kindergarten through about 6th grade and it was so nice to see her, especially since I hadn’t seen her since High School graduation!

5. So I have skeeball again tonight and we’re going out for dinner beforehand. Why, you ask? Because our match isn’t until 9:15. NINE FIFTEEN. I know, I’m getting wild with these late nights.

6. I finally figured out how to get books from the library on my Kindle!!! And of course I got like three books all at the same time. That’s just how it works, right? I just finished Defending Jacob and am about to start The Dinner by Herman Koch. I love free books.

7. I’ve decided I need to make an effort to go downtown more. I love being down near the loop but I rarely go since it’s a 40-60 minute bus ride during the morning commute. I was down there on Tuesday to volunteer and it reminded me that I need to get out of Lakeveiw and Lincoln Park every once in a while!

8. We have book club this weekend!!!! So excited, especially since it’s our holiday party! Now I just need to go find a good White Elephant gag gift… $5 limit! Right in my budget.

Have a great Thursday!

Any one else bought or decorated their Christmas tree yet? OR how are you celebrating Hanukkah tonight?!

Anyone else like getting books from the library?

What’s your bedtime?

  1. I was just downtown last night and it reminded me of the same thing! It’s so pretty this time of year and I need to make more of a point to go enjoy it!

Hope you are well and had a lovely Thanksgiving! Hope to see you again soon!

  2. OMG we are book twins! I am reading the dinner right now and next up is The book Thief!! yes this Chicago weather has been sucking completely! I am a runner too! I love your book reviews they have helped me choose new reads so easily! happy Thursday!

  3. I still haven’t gotten library books on my kindle, I’m too lazy to figure it out (sad, I know). Also, I lived alone for 2 years and almost had my room entirely cleaned out, only to move back home…so now my room is overflowing and a mess!

    • Haha my mother would just die if I tried to move all my stuff back in! She’s managed to get my brothers’ stuff out of their rooms, I’m the only one with work left to do!

    • Um I didn’t love Defending Jacob. I liked that it really kept me guessing with all the plot twists, but beyond that I didn’t like the main character (the Dad) and I really didn’t like Jacob, and then I just felt sad for the mom… So I felt it hard to really root for anyone.

  4. My mom always wants me to clean out my room when I go home too! I always tell her that once I move to a bigger place, I’ll take all of my stuff but that’ll be a few years down the road 🙂 You should come to the loop one day when I’m working downtown and we can grab lunch!

    • Haha I know – I tell her, you can put this in the attic but I can’t take it until I live in a house!

And I’d love to grab lunch with you one day, send me an email and we can figure it out!

  5. We love using our library app to get free ebooks. I think it’s genius!

We decorated our tree on Sunday. I still miss a real tree, but I have to admit I like not having to water it or keep vacuuming all the needles as they fall off all month long.

We’re typically in bed by 9-9:15 because we get up at 4:30am. Even on weekends we don’t stay up much later than that because we’re so tired from the week! LOL

    • Haha that’s why my parents had a fake tree for several years, they went back to real though a while ago because my mom missed it! And if I got up at 4:30am I’d be in bed at 8:30! Haha I’m an 8 hour a night kind of gal

  6. White elephant swaps are the BEST! We always have one with my mom’s side of the family. And by “always” I mean it’s been happening the past four years, ever since I convinced them it was a good idea. Now they’re the ones asking to make sure we’re having it each year!

  7. I’m so lucky, my Mum doesn’t want my room cleaned out! She uses my room sometimes, but she says she doesn’t want to see it totally empty! It wold take forever to clear, though, we still have my brownie uniform!

  8. I actually get books from my hometown library and bring them back to school with me. My hometown is 2.5 hours from where I live in Gainesville, Florida (a.k.a. home of the Gators), so it’s kind of silly. However, the school library doesn’t have some of the “fun” reads, if you know what I mean.
