May Goals

So I’m a couple days behind on this one, but you all can forgive me, right? Since it’s the beginning of a new month it’s time to take a look at how I did on my goals for last month and then make some new ones for May! Warning: May goals aren’t too thrilling… I’ve got a crazy busy month coming up so I’m trying to keep it simple!

Here’s a recap of my goals from April:

1. Run outside at least once a week. Hmmm. Didn’t do awesome at this since I’ve been injured, but I actually think I ran outside almost every week, especially since I had the 5K on Sunday, my run with Emily and Kelsey, and I ran 1.5 miles outside the day after Boston. So like 3 out of 4? Sounds good to me.

2. Follow Jamie’s Intuitive Eating Challenge EVERY DAY. Although I’m not sure I really focused on every e-mail every day, I got so much out of this challenge that I’ll call it a success. Here are all my IE Challenge Re-caps and thoughts posts:

3. Work on using positive affirmations and mantras. YES!!! This has been so helpful to me, and I love that I started doing Saturday mantras to share one of my favorites for the week with all of you! (week 1, week 2, week 3, week 4).

And now, some goals for May!

1. Graduate law school. With today being my last day of classes, I have 4 finals and 1 paper in between me and graduation in 2 weeks. Let’s do this.

2. Stay in a good mindset. I came out of the IE Challenge in really good mindset and my goal is to stay this way as best I can. The next three months are going to be three of the busiest and most stressful months of my life and I need to stay centered, focused and relaxed.

3. Make 1 recipe a week. The way my Bar review class schedule goes, I’m probably going to be eating lunch at school every day, and I cannot be buying lunch every day. I’ve fallen into a bad habit of buying lunch on the 2-3 days I’m there at that time and it must stop. So if I make one recipe a week in bulk and pack it up, I hope to encourage some better habits…

These are pretty simple goals, but for the next 3 months that’s all I can handle: study, study, study, survive. Maybe have some fun thrown in there. Haha I actually scheduled in my fun. I’m doing a kickball league on Sunday afternoons and I already have one Muddy Monk race on the books. Plus I’ve got awesome friends who won’t let me go completely insane.

As for the blog… I honestly don’t know what will happen. I don’t know if I’ll have anything to write about, I don’t know if I’ll have the energy to write. I already know I’m ditching all weekend posts at this point, but don’t be surprised if there are days during the week where you don’t hear from me, especially in July… Bear with me. I know I love this community and I love writing so I don’t intend to stop right now. We’ll just see what happens!

Do you have any goals for yourself right now?

Are you good about packing food?

  1. I was literally just thinking the other day when I saw that you were graduating… What’s going to happen to Peace Love and Oats when she’s studying for the bar exam? Glad to see that you won’t be going away completely and you’ll definitely still have me as a reader! 😀

  2. During school I was able to come home for lunch, but once I start working next week I have to start thinking about packed lunches…I’m definitely not going to be eating out often if I can avoid it!

    Good luck with finals!

  3. I almost always try to bring lunch to work. I usually make a huge dish on Sundays and then bring it throughout the week. Casseroles, soups, and big salads are perfect for this. I also bring my coffee every morning too. In the summer, I even make it the night before so I can have iced!

I know this summer is going to be busy but I’m so proud of you for finishing up law school! It’s also really exciting to see what you decide to do next!

    • I think my problem with the big dish thing is I get so tired of eating it all week! I’ll have to get creative… Aka look at your pinterest board. And I should bring my coffee… I think one problem I have though is I hate carrying all that crap with me.

  4. Packing more lunches is one of my May goals also! I used to be really good about packing lunches, especially during law school, but I’ve fallen out of the habit lately.

Good luck with bar exam studying! Definitely schedule some fun things, otherwise, you risk getting bogged down by stress and burning out. Also re: blogging–I actually *started* my blog during the second half of bar studying as a distraction, haha. You just never know what activities will help keep you sane during that time!

  5. I hope everything goes well with finals and all! I think you’ll have no problem accomplishing your May goals. We’ll forgive you if we don’t hear from you – it’s okay to have a life outside of blogging! 🙂

  6. Congratulations on finishing all the classes. Looks like you’ve got quite exciting months to come. I’ve recently started running and i know positive affirmation is really helpful especially on those drowsy lazy days!

  7. Good luck studying for the bar!! My husband did it 6 years ago and I remember how it completely took over his life…

I’m a relatively new reader and just wanted to say how much I’ve been enjoying your blog!

  8. Those are great goals – especially making food ahead of time. It’ll save you so much time and money. I love food prepping when I have time (and patience).

    • I hope it goes well, I love putting them everywhere, especially printing them out and hanging them up in places were I am the most.

  9. Huge congratulations on almost finishing law school! You’re so close…and yet so far. 😉

I prefer simple goals over complex ones. They’re much easier to remember, and (I think) they seem more attainable, which gives me a little push of motivation. 🙂

  10. I need to run outside more! I feel bad whenever I run on the treadmill because I feel like my dogs just stare at me and are begging me to run with them.

  11. This is very random, but I saw the 4th hour of The Today Show (with Hoda and Kathy Lee) was filming in Charleston this week and thought of you! Happy Friday 🙂

    • Oh I heard they were there! I think a couple girls I know were supposed to be on it, they filed at least part at my school. I’ll have to see if it’s online!

  12. I love your posts–so even just a few a week would help us all out! You can’t llllleeeaaavvvveeee completely!! 😉

But I do understand–the BAR & studying comes first. Priorities are important ,and they shift throughout life– We’ll still be here when you are! xo

    GOOD luck!!! <3

  13. Simple goals are best in my opinion as they’re most accomplishable. Especially during the busy times you have ahead it’d add even more stress if you set super high goals.
Take it easy in terms of blogging. Like others said before: I enjoy reading your blog, too, but I’ll continue doing so no matter how often – or not – you post. Good luck with your exams!
Regarding packed meals I like to prepare batches of different grains and then mix different meals by adding various legumes (from a can), vegetables, dressings/sauces. That way I don’t eat the same meal every day but it’s still managable in terms of prepping time.

  14. Hi Katie! Just came across this blog post after looking at your recaps of the IE Challenge. Congratulations on graduating! I love your goal posts–especially the ideas of creating mantras and staying in a good mindset after the challenge. I can totally identify with where you’re at after having completed the challenge too and now I’m also studying for an exam I’m taking the end of June. What do you do for stress management–besides re-energizing with friends and playing kickball?

    • Honestly, just a good mindset! I make sure to take time for myself, for example I get up really early to get in a workout and start getting things done, get work done during the day (with plenty of breaks!) and then dinner time and beyond is “me-time” where I unwind and relax.
