Hey everyone! Sorry for the later post (I’m sure you were all DYING of anticipation). I tried to sleep in since I didn’t sleep well (see below), went on a run, showered, had breakfast and now I’m just getting to a coffee shop to post this!
1. Have any of you ever been a little paranoid when you move into your apartment? The first week or so when I move I’m always a little freaked out that someone will try and break in at night. I realize this is completely irrational, but I literally couldn’t sleep my first new nights and found myself googling “police reports at ____ (my address)” at 2am… Sigh. The joys of living alone.
2. I’ve been volunteering once a week with a legal aid clinic and I’m so glad I decided to do this because it gets me out of the apartment and feeling human! I LOVE getting dressed and joining everyone in their morning commute. I’m sure several months into a job I’d get tired of this, but right now it makes me feel like I have a purpose in life.
3. Speaking of work, now that I’m about moved in I really need to focus on my job search… *sigh*. I feel like life is about to get depressing.
4. CAN. NOT. GET. OVER. THIS:
5. Has anyone heard of ZipCar? I think it might just be a Chicago thing, but I signed up so that I pay a $60 annual fee to join and then anywhere from $8-$12 per hour (depending on type of car) to use a zip car in the city. Since I feel like I need a car more and more these days, it’s a great way to have access to one when I need it. I just reserve a car beforehand and go pick one up at one of their many locations around the city.
6. You all probably don’t remember, but a long, long time ago I mentioned that a friend of mine got me started on following Blue II on twitter (and now instagram). He was the mascot for Butler University in Indiana and SO cute. Sadly, he passed away this weekend, and I’m most sad for their other dog, Trip (the new mascot) since he lost his buddy. How cute were they?!?
7. I will FINALLY have internet tonight! I am so excited, although it’s been nice to not be attached to my computer. Although horribly inconvenient.
8. So I finally put away all my kitchen stuff last night and EVERYTHING except the microwave fits! I’m shocked to be quite honest.
9. Have a great Thursday!
Anyone else paranoid like I am?
What’s your view from your apartment?
Any tips to keep me from feeling awful about my life during my job search?
Those dogs are adorable, how sad about Blue II!
ZipCar is nationwide (city thing) and I believe you can use your membership in other places too. I have a corporate one for work and I looked into using a car in Boston to get to the race start. Didn’t end up doing it though!
Tip: Treat applying for jobs like a job. Work out early, go to a coffee shop (get out of the apartment), and apply all day. It sucks but you’ll find a job faster and maintain a routine!
Oh that’s cool that it’s nationwide, I can use it when traveling!
Can I come move in with you?? I WANT that view!
Haha we could get bunk beds!
So…we moved over a year ago, and I still have trouble sleeping at night when I’m alone, lol! We don’t even live in “the big city”, but it still freaks me out when I go to bed at night.
Love your new view!
Oh I’m sure I’d feel this way no matter where I lived!
I went to Butler, and I’m currently in depression on Blue’s passing. Well, not actually, but I am sad. He was at every single one of my games, and always greeted me at the gym.
Awwww that’s so cool you got to see him so much! My friend met him and I was so jealous!
Be confident that God has the PERFECT job in store for you! He has a way of teaching us things through different phases in our life, but he always wants the best for us. Trust that and hang on to Him! 😉 Praying for you!
Awww thanks, Ash, I appreciate that!
The second Blue II’s death was announced, his picture was plastered on Facebook walls, and Indiana went into mourning. He was pretty influential!
I think the best thing that you can do is get out of the house. It’s great that you’re volunteering! I’m not going to lie, about one day a week, I have a depressing day where I just sit in my pajamas and job search…all day long. And then on other days, I make myself get out and do something. I’ve been babysitting about once a week, and I look forward to it because it gives me something else to focus on. I hope that you find something quickly!
I’ve found I HAVE to get out of my apartment every day, otherwise it’s just too depressing.
I am still irrational about people breaking in…..& I live with my husband. Hah! He’s always like “dude, calm down.” haha
Love the outfit!
Ha, I think I’d be less freaked out with another person there, especially one who could protect me!
I was talking to my co-worker today about being attached to our computers. She house sits and the first thing she asks potential clients is if they have wireless internet so she can bring her laptop.
Ha, she is really attached! I like the break every once in a while
Your view is gorgeous – congrats on the new place! Hang in there with the new kitchen and job search … you’ll get used to the kitchen and I’m confident the job search will work out for the best!
Thanks, Megan, I hope it does!
Superrrr paranoid. It always takes a few weeks to get used to the sounds of a new place. Whenever I’m staying away from home, I feel like every single noise is someone breaking in. Terrifying. And I LOVE your work outfit. You look amazing!
Yes, that’s the problem: it’s the sounds!
We actually just got ZipCar at my college’s campus in downtown Indianapolis and it sounds like a neat idea!
it’s a really great idea! Although more expensive than I hoped, but I guess that’s understandable since you’re basically renting a car!
Aww, poor old dogger!
That’s great all your kitchen stuff fit. I’m kind of amazed actually.
I’ve seen some great thoughts in other replies about job hunting. I definitely agree, make it like it IS your job while you’re searching.
Haha I’m amazed as well.
Weee yay for Internet again! When I do lack it, if even for a short while, I start to lose it/get irrationally mad. Sooo yeah, I’m slightly addicted and not too proud :-/
You really do have a great view from your new place, I wouldn’t be able to get over it either! Have a nice weekend ms. Katie 🙂
you have a great weekend too, Tessa!
