Disclaimer: I was given a $30 credit from Pretty Quick, however all comments and opinions are my own.
After reading about Pretty Quick on Sierra’s blog, I signed up and then e-mailed the company to ask about reviewing their services. I was in desperate need of a haircut and wanted to go to a real salon rather than just getting a light trim at the styling school I usually go to in my neighborhood (only $16 for a cut!).
They were incredibly receptive and immediately gave me a $30 credit. That, with the $10 credit I got from the code on Sierra’s post, was my guideline for picking a salon. I knew I wanted somewhere that I could get a cut for around $50 so I wouldn’t have to spend much.
So what is Pretty Quick? Pretty Quick is a “concierge service” for salons, meaning that they give you recommendations and find you reservations. The best part about Pretty Quick is that you make your appointment for that day or the next day, which is great for me because I hate making appointments way ahead of time.
You just sign up for Pretty Quick, and then fill out the form to make an appointment:
You preview your request and then submit. Pretty Quick sends out your request to all of their approved salons, who have 5 minutes to respond. You then have 15 minutes to make a decision and book an appointment (you can also choose not to book anything).
Once you have your options, you book an appointment at the salon! Pretty Quick books the appointment for you and you receive a confirmation e-mail and a text message reminder before your appointment.
Based on reviews and location, I chose to get my hair cut at the Johnathan Breitung Salon and Luxury Spa. The salon was really nice and professional looking and the service was great – everyone was very attentive and made sure I was taken care of. I didn’t give my stylist much direction because I didn’t really know what I wanted other than NOT TOO SHORT, which I made very clear. I was actually quite proud of how I handled getting several inches off (I usually have a freak out) and left pretty happy.
The only problem I have with getting my hair cut at a salon is they put a ton of product in my hair and then use a diffuser to blow dry it, so I end up leaving looking like a frizzy poodle… Never fails, every sing time. So after washing and styling my hair at home, it looked much better!

Like it? I do. I’m really glad I got about 4 inches taken off, it was just too long and the ends were looking a mess.
I would also like to add that when I left the salon I received an e-mail from Pretty Quick with a receipt (you pay through Pretty Quick), which stated that I paid a 100% tip and my total was $60. I freaked because I paid my tip in cash and should have only been charged $10. I e-mailed them back about the issue and within 10 minutes received a response that they had contacted the salon, who realized their mistake, and I was reimbursed. I was very impressed by their quick reaction and their customer service team.
I really enjoyed my experience with Pretty Quick, and think it’s a great option for when you’re in a new city, looking for a new salon, or just need something done immediately and can’t get into your regular stylist.
How do you find a hair stylist?
What does your haircut look like?
How often do you get your hair cut?
My haircut is a mess although that’s exactly how I like it 🙂
Well if that’s how you like it, then don’t change a thing!
Do you use any kind of product on your hair to help shape your curls? I have curly hair (not quite like yours, but still curly) and I never like to wear it natural because it’s always so frizzy and crazy.
I ALWAYS restyle my hair after I leave my salon. They give me a good cut, but I like to take control afterwards and style it my way. Haha. 🙂
I brush my hair when I get out of the shower, dry it a bit with my towel (more patting dry), and then use a curling mousse like Pantene Curl Defining Mousse (http://www.pantene.com/en-US/hair-care-products/product/Curl-Defining-Mousse.aspx?UPC=080878043118) or John Frieda Curl Reviver Styling Mousse (http://www.johnfrieda.com/en-US/ProductDetail/Hair-Care/Frizz-Ease/Take-Charge-Curl-Boosting-Mousse). I scrunch this in my hair upside down and then right-side up. After that I LEAVE IT! If you mess with it too much the curls fall apart and get frizzy.
Thanks so much for the tips!!
i have the same hair (but brown) i don’t comb at all that is one of the things that causes frizz. and i use an old cotton t-shirt to wrap my head/dry my hair to cut frizz, it really works. garnier has some really good creams that gives nice curls and less frizz.
I’ve heard the cotton t-shirt thing before, I might try that! Thanks, Marcy!
they tell you what you have to tip?
No they don’t tell you what to tip, that’s up to you!
What a cool idea and your hair looks super cute! I need a trim so badly… maybe in October!
Aww thanks! Lol why October?
After I get paid 🙂
haha there you go
How awesome! I’ve never heard of Pretty Quick before. Love your new ‘do! Very cute. I get my hair cut once every 2-3 months. 🙂
That’s smart, I need to get my hair cut that often so it doesn’t get so stragly (real word…)
This is a really cool concept, especially if you’re out of town or living in a new city!
A 100% tip would’ve been really generous! I’m glad that they fixed that for you!
Hahahaha that would have been VERY generous, especially for an unemployed person…
I used Yelp to find a new stylist when I moved to SF. I love my salon! I’m rocking a long bob right now, but I’m about ready to get it all chopped off into a daring pixie cut. I like going short when I’m training, it’s one less thing to worry about during the transition from gym to work.
Yelp is SO great to find new places. That’s brave to go for the pixie cut, I’m sure it will be adorable!
OKay that is awesome! I’d totally use that if I didn’t already have an amazing hair lady!
LOVE your cut!
That’s great you have someone you love, I’m still looking!
That’s a really neat idea for a business! I’m sure it would be quite helpful living in a big city. I have to admit though (and maybe this is just my naivety) that paying over 20 or 30 dollars for a haircut just seems strange. I think my haircuts always cost about 20 dollars, plus a few more for the tip. But maybe that’s just being from a small town?
Oh really?!?!!? Oh my gosh, I’ve never seen a haircut for that inexpensive! The cheapest I’ve seen in a city is around $45. Lucky girl!
This is awesome! I’m definitely going to try it. I just moved and I am so terrified to find a new stylist. Hopefully this helps!
It’s a great way to find someone new – I also looked the salon up on Yelp before choosing, so that’s a great option too!
