WIAW–Intuitive Style

61

I have to admit, I was pretty resistant to sharing a day this week on my WIAW post. A lot of intuitive eating is trial and error for me, and despite updating you all on my progress, I consider it a pretty personal journey. Over the past week and a half many of my days have had really weird eating habits. Part of what we do is think about what we’re craving and then based on that decide what to eat. Well, I never really know what I’m craving, or I want a whole bunch of different things. Because of that, my meals turn into a bizarre montage of little snacks rather than a coherent meal.

I don’t know why it feels so personal, but a big part of me didn’t want to let everyone in on what I’ve been eating. Ha, maybe I’m just feeling moody right now. However, I decided yesterday that I would focus a lot of making meals, sitting down to eat them, and stopping when full, so I thought that using it as my WIAW post would force me to be better about that, and keep me from snacking out of the fridge. So here we go!

If you’re new to What I Ate Wednesday, head over to Peas and Crayons to find out what it’s all about and see the other bloggers who are participating.

Peas and Crayons

I had intended to go run immediately when I woke up Tuesday morning, but my stomach was feeling really iffy so I hung around for a while and ended up getting really hungry. I made some oat bran with Designer Whey vanilla protein powder mixed in (basically my Chocolate Protein Oat Bran without the chocolate) and topped it with almond butter and half a mango sliced up. I realized I forgot to take a picture when I was almost done…

Oops.

After that I did some blog work, started outlining for one of my classes, and then headed off to the gym for a run. I didn’t know what I planned on doing, but I ended up finishing 4 miles! Pretty good when all I’d run in the past 10 days was 2 miles due to my sore throat. I ran a few errands, headed home, showered, and then got ready for lunch.

Here is where crazy craving girl comes in. I knew I wanted something green, but I also wanted a microwave muffin and yogurt. So I had both. I started out with steamed kale with some nutritional yeast and hummus on top:

And then had a pumpkin microwave muffin (this muffin from STUFT Mama but with egg whites) with almond butter and plain Greek yogurt with vanilla and stevia mixed in. Perfect!

After lunch I was really feeling chocolate, but wanted a warm drink, so I heated up some almond milk and mixed in a big spoonful of cocoa powder and stevia. It was perfect!

Right when I was about to head to my afternoon class I got really hungry, so I sliced up a banana for a quick snack:

After I got to school, I had a Quest bar during my class. Photo taken afterwards…

When I got home I was STARVING but I knew exactly what I wanted. I made a wrap with 1 egg + 1 egg white, steamed carrots and spinach, hummus and a Rudi’s wrap. It was perfect!

For my “dessert” I had some Fage Greek Yogurt, (plenty of) almond butter, honey and a microwave muffin. I keep trying to make a muffin to share with everyone, but again this wasn’t quite right… I’ll keep working on it. And I also had an un-pictured piece of dark chocolate.

And there you have it! A day of intuitive eating! By the end of the day I was glad I made it a WIAW day, because it really did force me to have set meals and sit down, despite how random they may have been…

If you’re not a WIAW participant, would you share your daily eats with a bunch of people? Why or why not?

What are you craving right now?

What’s your favorite kind of yogurt?

  1. Im not an eats sharer because Im intuitive and it swings from day to day…and and and what rocks for me will most surely not rock for another 😉

  2. i know what you mean about eating feeling so personal. i haven’t been doing a lot of wiaw posts in the typical fashion for that reason – one because i eat the same damn thing all the time and two because i don’t like people judging how much or how little i eat in a given day (since i know it’s not technically about that but i am aware some people do look at wiaw with that lens). all these eats are great – i like that you ate what you craved and especially that you craved that quest bar – it’s one of my favorite flavors!

  3. I love Fage yogurt, but most greek yogs are great! I was a little hesitant showing my eats every WIAW and I think I still am – know what you mean about it feeling personal. But I am always glad when I do and I learn a lot from it.

  4. Totally unrelated to your post, but is the bee on your computer from the Golden Bee in Colorado Springs next to the Broadmoor? I have the same one stuck on my computer too! Random!

  5. CONGRATS BABE! You are doing SO well at identifying those cravings and putting time into your meals! I’m so proud of my Katie <3

I was really nervous/anxious to publish today's WIAW post, too. I always kind of get like that, but I could really relate to what you were saying at the beginning of today's post – I was feeling the EXACT same way, babe!

    Anywho….

all of your eats look good and I haven't ever tried a muffin from stuft mama before! I probably should!

    • I’m glad to hear you feel the same, and thanks for the encouragement! And you should try one of STUFT Mama’s muffins, I love them!

  6. I don’t regularly participate in WIAW, but I have in the past. I do IF (intermittent fasting), so my portions are different than what others may consider “normal,” haha. My current cravings – pancakes with chocolate chips, watermelon, leftover enchiladas, eggs, broccoli, spring mix, mango. How was that Quest Bar? I’ve had the cinnamon roll (eh, so-so) and the PB&J (liked!) thus far and am looking at having more. I <3 their ingredient list and nutrition stats.

    • A day of IF would be interesting to see! And I liked this quest bar a lot! My favorites are the lemon and strawberry cheesecake though… For some reason I’m not a huge chocolate person when it comes to snack bars.

  7. I love plain Greek yogurt mixed with a scoop of pb2, cinnamon and stevia. Throw in some berries and its an awesome treat!

  8. It sounds and looks like you’re doing well with this! I’m sure it’s a challenge.
I’ve been tempted to do WIAW but honestly, my meals have been so boring lately. Plus I go on kicks where I eat the exact same things day in and day out. I also think that it opens up a lot of opportunity for judgement and that’s not something I want to deal with right now. 🙂

    • You know, everyone says WIAW opens you up for judgment, which it does, however I’ve been really lucky to never once get a negative comment. Great readers I guess!

  9. Good for you! My eats have been a bit more random and I have been eating way less veggies. I know I will eventually want them back in my life, but for now, I’m just eating what I want… Which of course is what I have been depriving myself of!

    • I’m the same, definitely eating less veggies. Although I’ve found that’s more because they upset my digestive system than anything else.

  10. I think it’s awesome that you’re trying YOUR best to EI. And that’s what matters-the process is important, not just the end result! You will continue to learn a lot about yourself & how/why/what you eat, and that’s really cool!

I think your eats look fab! And I really love that wrap idea….. 🙂 xo

  11. Haha, my meals are always pretty random, too! But, when I truly follow my cravings, I feel very satisfied and am much less likely to snack when I’m not truly hungry. Thanks for sharing!!! 🙂

  12. I am so craving a nice stack of protein pancakes with PB2 sauce!! I love plain chobani yogurt and then adding in what every flavor I want to make it! It is so versatile!

    • oooo that sounds delicious! And I agree on plain chobani (or any greek yogurt), plus when you add your own flavor you aren’t adding all the sugar!

  13. Intuitive eating is such a challenge – most of the time I can’t decide on what I’m actually craving! It sounds like you’re making a ton of progress, thanks for sharing!

  14. I’m totally craving chips and dip right now (the REALLY bad Ruffles and Lays French Onion kind…) but that’s pretty typical of my loooong Wednesdays.

I have such a hard time picking “meals” for my WIAW posts too (mostly because I just graze all day long)so glad to see I’m not the only one 🙂

    • Ooooo I love chips and dip, you’re making me miss watching football games at home since we always have french onion dip! Haha and you are definitely not the only grazer here!

  15. I feel weird sharing everything I ate in a day when there’s random handfulls of whatever involved, espeically candy. If I ate three squares with reasonable snacks for a day that was all pretty much unanimously agreed upon to be nutritionally sound then I feel good sharing my food. But more often or not you just feel judged by your choices since there’s so much opinion out there on what “healthy” is. Everyone’s a nutritional expert, especially when it’s not their food!

On a brighter note, it looks like you’re doing a great job! Keep up the good work!

    • Thanks Emily! And I definitely choose my more “Regular” meal days for WIAW rather than grazing days. It’s just too hard to get all the pictures and write about it otherwise.

  16. That’s so great that it seems like intuitive eating is really working for you!

It’s definitely time for me to eat as my stomach has been growling for awhile… Time to listen to my hunger cues and have supper! 😀

  17. Your dessert looks so good! I love warm and gooey peanut butter cookies, and your recipe reminds me of a healthier version! 🙂

I just did my first WIAW. It’s tough! lol! I love any plain Greek yogurt with berries or PB2 mixed in. Yum!

  18. girl, you should see me! haha, sometimes i don’t eat breakfast until 10am and sometimes i eat lunch at 10:30am. It’s all about letting go and letting hunger in, yes?

  19. That hot cocoa looks so perfect and comforting. It’s good to see that you are making such positive progress with eating intuitively, for me it definitely took a while for my body to be able to communicate properly with my mind to tell me what I wanted to eat!
