Friday Facts + Giveaway Winner!

Now you didn’t really think I’d skip this week’s Thursday Thoughts post did you? I just disguised it! Haha, I just love writing these posts. And seeing as I spent all day yesterday on airplanes, I didn’t have much of a post put together anyway. I hope you’re all excited for the weekend and have something fun and/or relaxing planned! I’m headed back to Chicago this weekend and so excited because I get to see many of my Chicago blogger friends at book club! This month we’re reading Heartsick by Chelsea Cain, so if you read it as well and have a review on your blog, feel free to send me an email before Monday! Now, on to today’s Friday Facts!

1. Fact: I usually take the aisle seat when I fly because I can use the restroom without making anyone get up and I can stand up and get off more quickly when we land. However, I took the window seat for all 4 of my flights to and from San Francisco just so I could see the mountains and desert we were flying over.

2. Has anyone heard of Evolution juices? Apparently it’s Starbucks’s new juicing line. I saw these in a Starbucks in Denver, and then I saw an actual Evolution Juice store in San Francisco. I might have to try it out!

3. Check out this airport breakfast. Normally I end up eating a cup of fruit and either a granola bar or yogurt. Well I had some extra time in Oakland since my flight was delayed, so I got this veggie and bacon omelet with home fries. It was fluffy and not one bit greasy. Oakland for the win.

4. Speaking of flights, I had a 50 minute layover in Albuquerque, however my first flight was delayed 40 minutes, leaving me with 10. I was worried that 1) my bag wouldn’t make it and 2) I’d get an awful seat. Lucky me these fears went away when I realized that 1) when we got to the gate my two planes were right next to each other (my bag made it) and 2) the flight was over half empty (got a good seat). Things always work out.

5. My friend in San Francisco works for a jewelry designer who has a couple shops. They sell Kitsch hairbands and she got me 3 of these tie dye ones with her employee discount: $3.50 for all of them! I’m in love with these hairbands.

6. All this flying means a lot of reading, so I’ve got some book reviews coming up! I read the Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls and I’m halfway through Matched by Allie Condle.

7. I’m so off schedule. I’d been waking up around 6am west coast time, so today I woke up at 8am central time. Lol this is sleeping in for me.

8. This week has really gotten me thinking about where I want to live after I graduate. I love Chicago and the people I feel like I don’t want to stay there long term. I also know this is the one time in my life when I can move around without having to take into account other people (husband, children).

9. Okay, okay, it’s time to announce the winner of the Sambazon Smoothie prize pack!

  1. Those headbands are so unique. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath is one of my favorite books. I know that when I graduate from college I want to move out of Chicago because I have lived there my whole life! Looking forward to seeing you at book club tomorrow. 🙂

  2. The Glass Castle is one of my favorite books. I actually got to hear her speak at my first college in Ohio. She’s pretty amazing. Have you also read Half Broke Horses by her. It’s incredible. And I’m definitely a window-sitter on planes! I love taking pictures of the views! 🙂

  3. I love Sylvia Plath and the Bell Jar is my all-time favorite book. I’m about to finish Dark Places by Gillian Flynn and I have to say I don’t like it as much as I liked her other two! I’ll be in need of a new book to read soon! I’m trying to do at least a couple a month.

  4. Excited to see your face tomorrow.

I have learned never to even try to plan with my life. I never thought I would live in Cape Town or Chicago, so now I just embrace the experience and know that we will make a life wherever.

If I’m flying alone, I like the aisle, but if I’m traveling with my 6’8 husband, he gets the aisle and I take the middle.

    • Haha I can totally see why he’d get the aisle! And I hate planning where to move, it’s too stressful. I’m hoping some sort of opportunity just comes up!

  5. My favorite seat in an airplane is first class, haha 😉 In reality, I prefer the aisle because I am always getting up to use the restroom! I love to move around! It is so fun to experience different cities and I think the best way to really get to know a city is to live there.

  6. Ahh jealous of extra reading time! I like to visit lots of different places but i also like coming home to the same place….and i usually pick an aisle seat for the same reasons as you…looks like your trip was awesome 🙂

  7. I looooove moving and traveling! Ok, moving and packing and unpacking isn’t that fun, but I looooved moving to London 🙂

I also take the aisle seat for my bladder 😉

  8. Looking forward to your book reviews!! I wasn’t enamored with The Bell Jar but The Glass Castle caused quite a heated discussion in a previous book club I was in.

When I fly I prefer the aisle seat for the reason you stated. But if it’s a flight where I want to sleep I want the window so I can lean my head against it. I can’t sleep in the middle or aisle seat at all.

  9. I TOO always take the aisle seat for that EXACT same reason. I have the smallest bladder in the world. On our flight from Switzerland to the US in 2010, I went to the bathroom 10 times. 10!!!

I need to check out those books, I have a few right now, but then I’ll look into Matched & Glass House. Was <— made into a movie?

  10. I’m definitely in love with moving around! I love moving. I think I’m finally settling down a bit though. I don’t know if it is natural or a feeling of obligation as I age. I’ll see. And I’m an aisle sitter too, for precisely the same reasons you are. The best part of traveling (the actual transportation part) is that there is so much time to read. I love it!

  11. I have lived in 5 cities in the past 10 years and LOVE it. I am always looking for new, adventurous places to check out while I’m young. I am interested about Starbuck
s juicing line. Good for them to jump on that bandwagon. I just hope it’s pure juice and not stocked with preservatives! I’ll have to check it out 🙂

  12. I was really excited to hear you had a good time at Stock Show. I live in CO and stock show is pretty much the best thing ever, I never fail to miss it! As for those Evolution drinks, I highly recommend the Sweet Greens, it is so so so good! It is pricey (Starbucks….how you torture me so), but absolutely divine. Looking forward to your book reviews.

  13. I do have a husband and kids so I’m pretty much stuck here in Kansas City. I do really love KC, but I wish we would have moved someplace WARM year round before we had kids. Just some food for thought while you still have control over your future residence!!
