The Results Are In!

Jambo!

So remember when I asked you all to fill out that survey? Well, I got 119 responses by the time I put this together, so thank you for those of you who took the time to fill it out! You can still go fill it out if you want to, I’ll see your responses and any post requests you might have. And remember, you can always email me at peaceloveandoats@gmail.com .

I figured that since I asked for you help, the least I could do was show you the responses that I got!

This was an interesting question because it wasn’t as clear cut as some of the others. Clearly my personal life is enthralling… Haha and I was also surprised at how many of you say you like recipes, seeing as I haven’t really posted more than a few in months… Guess I should get on that?

Apparently not everyone likes to read as much as me and my book clubbers? Haha I should have seen that one coming.

The clear winners are Personal Life, Informational posts, and emotional/binge eating, with “recipes” coming in there closely. Honestly, I’m not sure how to add more “personal life” to my posts. Suggestions? I don’t like putting my friends and family on here too much since they didn’t choose to write a blog and be in the “public eye” and when I’m alone it’s pretty… dull? Just me, going to school, going to workout, writing… Hmm. I’ll have to brainstorm this one.

The fact that so many of you (64!) asked for more emotional/binge eating surprised me at first, but then I realized it’s probably something a lot of young women are dealing with. I shy away from talking about it too much and almost didn’t add it to the survey, but mostly out of embarrassment. This has made me realize I need to just get over myself and be honest, so that you all have someone to relate to.

Not going to lie, I was hoping everyone would mark “no” so that I could just not blog at all on the weekend (and yes, I realize I don’t need to blog on the weekend, it’s my choice). When I used to post on Saturday and Sunday I had significantly fewer page views, so I just assumed no one read! This one really surprised me!

Here are some of my favorite suggestions:

  • A few Chicago-oriented suggestions (aka more Chicago)
  • More about your father (I wonder who wrote that…)
  • Food allergies/intolerances
  • Living on a budget
  • Job/Career search
  • Law School (the whole process)
  • Any guys? (BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I actually have a hilarious and horribly embarrassing post I’m considering…)
  • How to eat a lot of froyo in one sitting (we should have a competition, Chelsey)

Another question I asked is if you don’t comment, why not?

I got a few that say they use reader so they can’t comment unless they click over, or they just don’t feel like it (totally valid), but I got a couple saying they felt out of place, like they shouldn’t be commenting. I get comments from EVERYONE! Bloggers, non-bloggers, some people every day and some people only once, ever! If you feel like leaving a comment, please do! I LOVE THEM. LOVE. So never feel shy to comment, and if you do feel to shy, then email me at peaceloveandoats@gmail.com!

I would also like to mention that if I didn’t respond to your comment then there were one of three reasons: 1) you commented late in the evening and I usually don’t go back to a post to respond the next day (it would be never-ending!); 2) It was a short comment and I didn’t know what to say back; or 3) I am human, I am in law school, and sometimes I just mess up. One reader wrote that she was deterred from commenting after I didn’t respond to her comment, so reader – please send me an e-mail, I apologize for upsetting you! Seriously, e-mail me 🙂

Molly would also like to say she’s a little insulted and will take this as a challenge:

Only about 36% said that you love her… Sad face:

So what changes am I going to make?

Haha, not too many actually. This was mostly for my curiosity, but also to get an idea of where I want to take my blog. I have a TON of post ideas already and I think seeing what you’d like me to write about most, plus some of your suggestions, will really prompt me into more informational posts (or my experiences).

I’m really glad I did this survey though because I like having a plan and a direction, and I feel like for the past couple months my blog has really been all over the place. So, again, THANK YOU!

Oh, and one more change: more Molly. So that everyone will love her. This is the best game ever. Last night I stopped by my brother’s to grab a package and they weren’t home so obviously I played with Molly… still in my coat… on the kitchen floor. Totally normal. Anyway, if you stop petting her she licks your hands. If you hide your hands, she tries to find them. If you hide all of you… well, she freaks out. It’s hilarious.

Please ignore how ridiculous I look….

Anything else you wanted to say? This is an open forum!

What do you want to know about my personal life? Haha I may not answer…

  1. Thanks for sharing your results! It’s really neat to see what everyone else is thinking when they read blogs. I know Kath at Kath Eats did one a little while ago and I think it really shows how much you guys care about your readers.

  2. Thanks for sharing your results, It is interesting to see what readers are interested in. I know I try to live a healthy life style but still struggle with binge/emotional eating, i think that is defiantly something that a lot of people struggle with and can be an embarrassing one to talk about. Bentley and I LOVE Molly!!

  3. Your results are SOO interesting. I always wonder what people want to read on my blog. All my Home Decor, Travel, and Style/Fashion posts get the most hits, so I always wonder?

I think based on your results, you MUST do a dating post. Katie’s personal life needs more blog time…give the people what they want.

  4. That’s cool to see!! I was a book review fan actually!! Shame. Strangely enough this gives me a good idea of what my small reader base is interested in. I think, to an extent, these results generally apply to most young people who read blogs. I’m glad it was fun for you to see too though!

  5. I think you’re right that a lot of girls deal with emotional/binge eating, but are afraid to say anything. Even on my blog, I am horribly embarrassed to talk about it. I thought it was really good the times that you mentioned it though. While it may be hard to admit, it helps a lot of other girls feel less shame and also to cope with it. I found that my binge-eating dramatically reduced when I opened up about it. I hope this can happen for you too!

    • IT’s definitely a hard thing to talk about, but your right, we need to make it less shameful so that people will open up about it!

    • Haha well I’ve taken a more relaxed approach to school over the past year or so… but I also don’t work – this is like my part time job! Wish I got paid… haha.

  6. I’m doing a reader survey next week and I hope I get such a good response! 119 responses is AWESOME!

And that video with Molly is hilarious. I need to official meet her someday and not just run past 🙂

    • Ooo I can’t wait to see your survey! And Molly would LOVE to meet you! She’s always up for new friends and plenty of attention.

  7. Jambo to you too! Your results are so interesting! I think one difference on the weekends is commenting. I definitely read over the weekend but I tend to comment less so I don’t click out of my google reader very often. Maybe other people do the same and that’s why page views go down?

  8. Haha nice results girl! And I for one love the book reviews, so if you just want to email them to me and/or a list of things you’re reading, please feel free to do so 😉 And I love reading anything a blogger chooses to share about their personal life…stories, daily life stuff, whatever…let’s me get to know them more, which I always enjoy!

  9. Hi Katie! I just want to say that I recently found your blog and have been really inspired by you! I too am a recovering emotional/binge eater. Because of blogs like yours and many others that I follow, I have been inspired to start my own blog where I’m documenting my own journey to health and happiness. By candidly talking about binge/emotional eating on my blog, I, like you, hope to help girls realize that they are not alone and that this is a real problem that people should not feel that they need to hide. Congrats on all your successes! I hope I can be as successful as you!

    • Thanks, Maureen! I really appreciate you reaching out, and I hope you enjoy writing your blog. I find it’s a great creative outlet and way to connect to new people!
