Recently, I wrote about an article from Livestrong.com about what healthy eating means to different people. I came across this article on Huffington Post, where food trends are discussed as to whether they are rising or falling. In the author’s opinion, some of the rising food trends are local food, juice cleanses, elevation of vegetables, nose to tail (using the whole animal) and saturated fats (like coconut oil).

Other than a struggle with an eating disorder, I've never tried any crazy diets. I did watch a co-worker/friend go through every single one possible in two years though: Cabbage Soup, Atkins, South Beach, and she was so pretty, and thinner than me! But she'd always lose 15 pounds, then gain it back.My dad lost 60 pounds doing Atkins 5-6 years back, then gained it back. Recently, he decided to try dieting again and is down 50 pounds, and while he cuts out most carbs, he tries to make time to do a lot of walking, with the hope to eventually go to jogging/running. He takes two hour walks, eats smaller meals, and just less sugar. I think dieting involves finding out what works for you. I do have a close friend who's a vegan, and he does it more for personal reasons rather than health, but he hasn't given it up. Me, I've noted that I like carbs, I just should have less of them. A routine really really helps in my opinion. If you don't, you find time to snack, etc. Planning meals/breakfasts/ etc is a key to it. Just these last two mornings I've been back to a steady coffee/iced tea with Activia yogurt & oats breakfast, which is what I did last year almost every morning. It gets boring sometimes, but its a routine and its a good healthy start at 8:30 am! I think this is a good topic – a lot could really be focused on and discussed.
Hey girl! Just started reading your blog and I hopped over from Carrot 'n' Cake. Like it so far!Anyways, I've never really been on a diet although I have given up all sweets/desserts for Lent more than once. Recently I bought The Abs Diet book and although I have taken some pointers from the book I haven't really followed it yet. My basic philosophy is to eat things that are as close to their natural states as possible. That means veggies and fruits and grains are good, but things like processed snacks, candy bars, and other packaged items aren't so great. This doesn't mean I'm perfect, but I try!
