University of Akron Law School Lands $2 Million Bequest

2 million bequest

Summary: The McDowell family continues their generosity towards the University of Akron’s law school with a $2 million gift.

The estate of Beatrice Knapp McDowell continues to endow their favorite law school with millions in gifts, as they have for a long time. The latest comes in the form of a bequest, following Beatrice’s death in 2011. Her Husband, C. Blake McDowell, a corporate lawyer who died in 1998, and the family as a whole, have given more than $5.1 million to the University of Akron these last 40 years. The latest bequest amounts to $2 million.

“Beatrice McDowell’s generous bequest has allowed us to expedite the renovation process, enabling us to offer a better learning environment and help us attract students to the UA School of Law,” said President Scott Scarborough in a statement.

This generosity has allowed the school to move forward with completely renovating their C. Blake McDowell Law Center, an enterprise that will bring the a state-of-the-art moot court room, a jury deliberation room, two spacious interactive lecture halls, study areas, and other such renovations.

The construction will begin December and continue on a rolling basis for 18-months.

The McDowell family has already expressed their appreciation with donations supporting five professorships and various student scholarships.
