Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a good start to your week. Mine got off to a rough start since I got home at about 1am Monday night! Woohoo! Anyway, I had a GREAT weekend in Charleston and wanted to recap it for you all.
After getting in late Thursday night (aka Friday morning), my friend’s amazing fiancé picked me up (again, THANKS JOHN!), and then waking up at 5:30 to take my friend to school (she’s a teacher) so I could use her car, I was weirdly pumped and ready to go! I went to a Barre class (I’ll recap this Sunday I think) and then after a shower I headed downtown. It was so nice to walk around campus, I felt like I’d never left! Well, except for passing a girl wearing a Kappa Delta sweatshirt and realizing I didn’t know anyone anymore…
The KD house!
After walking around campus and then down King St (great shopping), I went through the new market place and stopped by the clothing store where I worked in college.
They also had a couple food venues at the end (Caviar & Bananas is like an even BETTER Dean & Deluca. So good.)
From there I headed out towards the water and enjoyed the park. I was so lucky with the weather this weekend – 70s!
After my walk I got lunch with a friend of mine from high school who moved to Charleston. We went to Verde, a great place for a quick salad or wrap if you’re in downtown. Then I picked up my friend from work and we ended up grilling at her fiance’s house (he was her boyfriend on Friday…) and seeing some Christmas lights.
Saturday morning we went to Jazzercise and then got smoothies at The Main Squeeze. Loved this place! The family that owns it is so nice, and were great about me wanting to change around a smoothie to fit what I wanted. They had a ton of options, I highly recommend it! They have both smoothies and juices.
After that I showered and then was off to Kiawah for Meredith’s wedding! It was so great to get to hang out with her and my other friends while they got ready for the wedding, I really miss these girls. I’m so bad at keeping in touch but I think part of it is that it makes me sad!
Enough of that, back to the wedding. It was out at the Sea Island Yacht Club and had the most gorgeous view.
Meredith was, as always, stunning and I’m so happy for her. Walking down the aisle:
The wedding was a blast: amazing food, great dancing and it was a smaller wedding so it felt more intimate. I got to spend plenty of time with my friends. After dancing the night away they so kindly let me crash at the house they’d rented for the weekend. We spent more time hanging out on the screened-in porch, singing and talking and I finally went to bed… on a love seat. Shockingly I woke up bright and early, but was greeted with this view:
And walked back to my car:
This so made me want to move back. As did leaving all my friends who were still sleeping in the house.
I made it back downtown and got to see and congratulate my twin, Amy Lee on her ENGAGEMENT!!!! And yes, I knew it was going to happen. Her whole family and her fiance’s family came into town and surprised her after she was proposed to. They had a party at his house with several other friends, all while I was at the wedding. It was so hard to keep the secret all weekend!!!
I loved getting to hear about his proposal, and seeing the book of photographs and a poem that he made her to propose. I was definitely crying as she described it all to me, she found a winner.
We went to church with her family, and then off to try on some wedding dresses! Just to get an idea of what she wanted, but not to buy. I’d made the appointment in advance knowing that it would be the only time myself, her and her mom would all be in the same place. It was a great end to the weekend!
I had some trouble getting home, a mechanical issue caused my flight to be delayed 6 hours, but I did get a $200 travel voucher and got to talk to a woman who’s run over 60 marathons! Impressive.
Long story short: this weekend rocked. And I miss my friends. And now I’m sad. The end.
Have you ever been to any gorgeous wedding locations?
Do you live in the same city as most of your friends?
Where did you go to college?
I do live close to a lot of my friends and family which I am very happy about. I am fortunate to have great friends so I am glad they are close by. One of my good friends from highschool went to Kansas for college and has never come back, so I miss her 🙁 But I do see her every once in a blue moon!
Did she go to KU? Does she live in Kansas City? Haha just wondering since I’m from KC!
Your weekend makes me happy! And I didn’t even experience it! It sounds like it was filled with lots of joy and love. Engagements are always so fun to hear about, at least to us ladies. I’ve been hearing more and more about Charleston and it looks like such a cute and nice place. I’m a New Yorker at heart, and never had much interest in venturing very south at all, but thanks to the blogging world my unfortunately closed mind about it has been opened up. I admit and apologize for my silliness. Thanks for showing this city!
I attended my cousin’s wedding in the Swedish countryside in a castle. It was extravagant and amazing in every way possible. I live in a city with many of my friends, but I wouldn’t say most. My closest friends are in NYC still. I went to college in Boulder, Switzerland, and Providence. I have a problem staying in one place clearly.
Charleston is definitely worth a visit! It’s gorgeous and actually has a ton of great restaurants! And that wedding sounds AMAZING!!!
Ah! I love, love, LOVE Charleston and Kiawah! One my best friends lives down there (she went to CofC, too!) and I’ve been able to visit her for the past couple summers. I eventually want to move, and Charleston is definitely towards the top of my list. 🙂 Gorgeous pictures!
Well if you like it in the summer then you’d like it year round because it is so hot, humid and touristy in the summer!
I love the heat! Tourists…not so much. But I was one when I was there, so I can’t really talk. 😉
What an amazing weekend, love!! Ahhh so jealous of the Charleston location haha….all your photos make me want to go back stat…definitely one of my favorite places to run (right by that fountain and along the battery)…and HOW AWESOME that you were able to be a part of your friend’s proposal weekend in addition to a wedding! I’m glad that everything worked out on your way home, too…how cool that you met that woman! That must have been some awesome conversation 🙂
I actually started running in Charleston, it was just too pretty! I’d go on walks and eventually decided to run for exercise. I loved making up new paths through the streets!
Goodness what a fabulous weekend Katie and the bride looks stunning! I have only been to Charleston once and I adored it.. it was around this time of the year too!
Right now I do live in the same city as many of my “friends” (ahemm in quotes for a reason ha?) but I have had recent epiphanies where moving away after school is done is going to happen 🙂
I love getting to move around, especially at this point when I’m younger and have the opportunity to! Where would you want to go?
That looks so beautiful! I’ve never been to Charleston but always wanted to go!
You should!!!!
So much love in the air! The wedding look gorgeous! I too live far away from most of my good friends 🙁 It makes me so sad to leave them after each of my visits!
Aww! Charleston looks so cute! I can’t say I’ve ever been to any great wedding locations, because I’ve never been to a wedding. Although, I’ve been lots of beautiful places where a wedding would be great! In the mountain in Switzerland? Why not?!
That sounds like a great place!
I’m so glad you had a great time with your friends, Charleston looks gorgeous! I went to school in Ann Arbor and I definitely miss it a lot, but every time I go home and visit my friends who stayed there after college, I realize how little they’ve changed. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that but I’m glad that I forced myself out of my comfort zone a little bit and moved somewhere new!
Agreed – I’m glad I tried living somewhere new!
My sister goes to school in charleston so I love visiting her. i seriously can’t get enough of that place. it is the best place to visit. now you make me want to go!
Oh man, between your post and Tina’s post, I’m halfway to booking a flight to Charleston like yesterday. I’m not 100% sure, but I believe I spent my first Easter in Charleston. Given that I was all of six or seven months old at the time, I can’t say I exactly remember, you know, any of it, but I’d love to go there sometime!
One of my best friends from college is currently in grad school at Loyola, and another good friend from college is one of my roommates right now, but by and large most of my friends are still in Michigan. Going back and seeing all of them throughout November for such short periods of time definitely made me miss living there and being geographically close to them, so I get where you’re coming from. If only it was possible to put life on pause in college! (Well, without all the homework, of course 😉 )
At least your friends aren’t too far away!
Katie, great post, wonderful descriptions and sounds like such a fun time. Please give Amy Lee my Congratulations!! on her engagement, that is fabulous.
I told her!
My boyfriend’s sister got married in St. John, VI. So beautiful! Right on the beach. I went to Auburn University in Alabama and most of my friends live in Alabama and Georgia. I’m back home in NY and I miss them so much!!
Oh that sounds beautiful!
Is there anything more beautiful than trees with Spanish moss? I don’t think so.
My two best friends from college got married at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens and the Cincinnati Observatory, respectively. I thought both were lovely and unique locations. We all went to college in Oxford, OH and they both still live in Ohio while I moved back to Illinois. I wish we all lived closer!
I LOVE the spanish moss! And those both sound like gorgeous weddings!
So glad you had such a great weekend!! Leaving friends is never easy easy!
i got to college in hawaii, and im from chicago so most of my friends are still in illinois!
I thought about going to school, in Hawaii but I decided it was just too far! Although I’ve never been!
Sounds like a fabulous weekend! I love time spent with great friends in beautiful settings. GREAT pictures!!
My husband and I just moved from Pittsburgh to Edmonton and we didn’t know anyone here, so it’s been a big adjustment! I have a lot of friends on the East Coast & in Chicago so thankfully we still have occassions to get together.
One thing I wanted to tell you about, though. As soon as my girlfriends and I graduated back in 2005, we started an email that goes out every Thursday. We answer the same eight questions every week (best item of the week, worst item of the week, weekend plans, couldn’t live without, guy status, announcements, etc.) and it has been the BEST way to stay in touch. Honestly, everyone is religious about responding to it, even 7 years later. I encourage you to try it with some of your girlfriends. I bet it would be super fun 🙂
Oh wow, what a cute idea! You all still do it every week? I love that!
These photos bring back memories of my trip to South Carolina a couple of summers ago! We stayed on Harbor Island, but we drove into Charleston one day. I’m glad that you had a fun time! I went to college in Indiana. Not too exciting, but when I was at Purdue, I got to meet a lot of out-of-state and international students, so that made it kind of exciting :)!
Haha Indiana can still be exciting!
What an awesome weekend! Most of my close friends live all over the place-so I love weddings! That was one of my favorite parts of getting married-getting to see all my friends at my showers, bachelorette party and wedding weekend!
I know – weddings have been the best way for me to visit everyone!
that sounds like such a great weekend. that wedding dress is gorgeous and i’m so happy you got to be there for your friend’s engagement! celebrating engagements is almost as much fun as weddings…well, maybe 🙂 too bad about the mechanical failure but hey, now you have money to spend to go to another visit back to charleston!
I normally don’t comment, butttt I’m from Mt. Pleasant and I’m back finishing up grad school at MUSC right now, and it was so fun to see your Charleston pics! I love when people come to Charleston/love Charleston as much as I do! Oh and random, but I was a KD, too! It’s so weird going back to football games and stuff at college and not recognizing girls in KD letters! Makes me feel so old haha
Where were you a KD??
I went to Clemson 🙂
I didn’t realize you’d gone to college in Charleston. I went a visited for the first time in August and stayed near the campus while sorority recruitment was in full swing. My friend and I were so jealous of the sorority houses like yours with the huge porches! I hope you guys actually took time to sit out there!
Well only 6 girls could live in the house since they were so small, but we used the porches plenty when we all were over there for events!
[…] (and see molly…). In case you had similar issues and missed anything, here’s my recap from my weekend in Charleston, and yesterday’s WIAW Grocery Store […]
Sounds like you had a great weekend! It is always great to spend time with friends you don’t get to see all the time. 🙂 And being in the wonderful city of Charleston makes it even better. We spent Thanksgiving at Kiawah it is so pretty out there – definitely a great spot for a wedding.
I went to Florida State University which is in Tallahassee for college. All that is there is the government and two universities. Not the most exciting place, but so many memories were made there.
That’s what I love about college towns – you don’t need anything but the schools! Makes it harder to visit though.
