Before I get started today I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all of your supportive comments on yesterday’s post! I always get a little nervous posting things so personal, but I know many readers benefit from being able to relate to my story, so I’m glad I got such a good reaction! Thank you for being great readers!
Time just needs to stop. Seriously. APRIL!? I graduate in like… 7 weeks? Freaking out. Deep breaths. Not about graduating, but all the work I have to do in between. Oh and guess what starts the DAY AFTER graduation? My Bar review class. Fantastic, right? Glad I didn’t try to plan a post-graduation trip…
Haha okay, rant over. Since it’s the start of a new month that means I’m going to review my goals from March and make some new ones for April! For those of you who are new to the blog, I usually do this each month as just a way to reassess things, take a step back and look at what I’m doing. They aren’t hard-set rules, just things I’d like to accomplish.
First, let’s take a look at how I did in March:
MARCH GOALS:
1. Get an article published. Womp womp. I submitted a few things to BlogHer right after my March Goals post, but haven’t put any effort in this since…
2. Read 2 books for fun. YES! I read FIVE books in March, three of which you can read my reviews for here.
3. Make 2 recipes from my pinterest board. Um… yea no. I didn’t do much cooking at all, although I invented a new breakfast recipe! It will be up this week, I promise! So good. I did make a few snacks that I pinned though, like these two:
Alright, time for some new (and possibly more realistic…) goals.
APRIL GOALS:
1. Run outside at least once a week. I learned on my run this weekend that I really need to get outside more. It’s a lot less stable, which works different muscles, so if I’m going to be racing outdoors I need to be running outdoors more! The nice(ish) weather will help with this one!
2. Follow Jamie’s Intuitive Eating Challenge EVERY DAY. I am so glad that I’m doing Jamie’s IE Challenge, it’s kinda scary to be honest, but totally necessary. I want to really get the most out of this that I can, so I need to work on taking a little time each morning to think about it so I can keep it in mind all day.
3. Work on using positive affirmations and mantras. I’ve read a couple posts recently that reminded me the power of the mind. Ever since I stopped marathon training and got injured I’ve dropped all the great mantras I used to keep in my head, and I honestly think it has affected me. My goal this month is to work on re-incorporating those into my daily life.

Do you use mantras, for life or working out?
Do you prefer running inside or outside?
What’s a goal you’re working on?
I was JOHN GREEN’s resident adviser in college.
🙂
my only claim to fame.
very cool!!
I love the goal about running outside once a week! That seems very attainable with better weather coming! I need to set some goals for myself for this month I think, because my regular activities have ended or are ending soon and maybe I’ll have time to actually work on them haha thanks for the inspiration!
It’s definitely nice to set some goals when you have more free time to work on them!
I’ve been using the mantra “Imagine, believe, achieve!” as I train for my marathon. It’s the first time I’ve ever really used one, but meditating on the meanings and implications of the words have gotten me through my long runs.
Good luck with the end of the semester!
Good luck on your marathon training!!!
All really great goals! Running outside is a must in April 😀
Thanks, Lindsay!
i totally prefer running outdoors!! love the fresh air & the views!!
I agree, it’s a nice change of scenery!
I definitely prefer running outside…15-20 minutes on the treadmill is all I can handle on the treadmill. I’m looking forward to some warmer weather so I can move outdoors a bit!
I hope you get some warm weather soon!
HAH! I love the, “You’re not going to die” one. I need to adopt that one during my long and fast runs.
I was thinking it during my workout today!
Never got the chance to comment, but kudos on your post yesterday! I know a lot of us can relate.
I have a few goals that I’m working on…a couple of them being to get back into shape (not necessary lose weight, but tone up, you know?) and to read more! It’s been a challenge to find a book that’s really grabbed my attention lately.
Thanks, Angela! And you should definitely read more! What kind of books do you like? I’ve got a lot of recommendations and a big list that’s been recommended to me!
I am so excited to start doing more runs outside! I think it’s a bit harder than the treadmill with the hills and uneven footing but so much more fun!
I definitely think it will be harder, but helpful too!
Great goals! I’ve never really used mantras, but maybe I should start incorporating them into my runs especially with the Boston Marathon less than 2 weeks away! Yikes!
Ahh good luck! My friend Lindsay (www.runningthewindycity.com) will be running it too!
I have heard a lot lately about the intuitive eating..without realizing it, the times i feel and look my best are when i use IE. I recently lost some weight because of it, got my wedding dress fit, then all of a sudden became aware that I had to maintain that size. My awareness led to anxieties which led to poor eating habits. My goal is to get back to intuitive eating!
I hope you can, and I’m glad to know that it worked for you at one point! That’s encouraging to me!
Running outside more translates to running outside with kelsey and stuffing our faces post run-right?
Um, OBVI.
I love that running affirmation! So cute and so true. I’m just now making my return to running after a long hiatus since my half marathon last August. Never thought I would be thrilled to complete a 1.5 mile run, but I totally am.
Haha I know how you feel!
These all look like great totally doable goals! Running outside is the best! Being on the treadmill gets boring fast for me. I do enjoy cold temps, but I am looking forward to lovely spring days to run in!
If I’m ever feeling a little down or unsure of myself I love looking at Pinterest for some inspiration or mantras.
Oh I way prefer warm temps for running, I’m so ready for the weather to change!
Those are good mantras! I never run inside, always outside, even when I lived in a place that actually got cold.
I guess it just makes me nervous with my injury to have to stop and walk all the way home in the freezing cold!
Those are some good mantras—totally LAUGHED at the “not going to die” one. HAH!
Right now my goal is to seriously kick butt this weekend & next week with my new Les Mills stuff.
And I prefer running outdoors when it’s perfect weather…..or else I want the TM. hah
Haha the “not going to die” one is my favorite – I say it in many situations!
I love love love quotes and mantras! I’ve kept quotes in various places since high school. I used to prefer treadmill running but now I love going outside!
I’ve been all about quotes forever too!
Running outside, hands down! Also the only place I can since I don’t have a treadmill or belong to gym so that works out nicely 😉 I’m a fan of mantras…Abby from Abby Eats Almonds hosts a monthly mantra campaign that I’ve been participating in since january, which has made a big difference in my mentality…focusing on something different each month has improved my thinking and outlooks a lot!
Haha no wonder you love running outside! And that’s a great idea for a campaign she’s put together!
I just got The Fault in our Stars for my Kindle, I can’t wait to start reading it! I love your idea of reciting the mantras daily. I think we forget to give ourselves little pep talks of praise every now and then!
You will love it!! And personal pep talks are sooo necessary!
Great goals! I want to try and read more books and also read a daily devotional each night before bed. I need to calm my mind before trying to go to sleep!
Those are really great goals – I agree with calming down a bit before bed!
Hi! I’m a new reader! Great goals–I actually made a Pinterest board called “recipes I’ve tried” as incentive to try more recipes (it hasn’t worked yet..the board is pathetic).
I definitely prefer to run outside over inside, but a fitness goal is to do more strength training.
Thank you for reading, Karen! Haha and I like the “recipes I’ve tried” trick, hopefully it will work soon!
[…] spending 170 minutes of my day in First Amendment Law… hmmm. But that’s okay, already working on my goals and using those positive […]
I also read The Fault in Our Stars. So good, right?!
I used to use positive affirmations and read them to myself daily. I used things like, “I am confident, I like to eat healthy, I feel good when I exercise,” etc. I felt like they really worked in a time when I needed to focus on the positive.
I like the idea of goals. Cool! Good luck!
Thanks, Leigha!
