Um remember when I did the “Ask Me Anything” Post with the anonymous survey? You forgot? Oh, me too…
Haha but I’ve looked over the questions and decided to break this up into a couple posts. First, I appreciate everyone who asked a question! No, I truly don’t know who you are but thank you! Secondly, I won’t be answering questions about more personal things, such as relationships, finances and the last game of the Chief’s season. I know many of you may be curious but those aren’t things I want to share on the world wide web.
So on to the first set of questions! Today’s are all questions centered around where I’ve lived and a couple on traveling.
What was it like going to school in Charleston? I love the town and even toured the campus briefly, I loved the quaint architecture and being minutes from downtown Charleston. What was the atmosphere like attending the college?
I absolutely LOVED going to school in Charleston! Even by my senior year I would find myself walking through the city and thinking “I LIVE here!”
The school is located in the middle of downtown, which is a small peninsula. It’s about 1 mile wide so it’s easy to get just about anywhere, but to go outside of downtown (where the beaches and most brand name places, like grocery stores, target, department stores, etc. are located) you have to drive. The city has an amazing food scene, tons of history and great shopping. If you’ve ever considered vacationing there I highly recommend it!
As for going to school there – it was a blast. It didn’t so much have the “campus” feel that a big school might, although most of the buildings were all in a big campus area. I loved it because you were IN the city, meaning you could walk a block from your class and be on King Street with restaurants and shops.
If anyone has questions about Charleston or the College of Charleston, please feel free to e-mail me!
How long do you see yourself staying in Chicago?
Honestly, I have no idea! I’m job searching mostly in Chicago but I’m also applying to jobs all across the country. My only criteria: would I move there for this job? I love living here in the city right now, it’s a lot of fun to be here at this age and I feel like I’m finally making some good friends. However, I honestly don’t see myself spending my whole life here. You never know, I might change my mind, but I don’t see this as a permanent, settling down place for me.
Where do you have your book clubs! I’m new to Chicago and would love to join!
Well Hi! Welcome to Chicago! The book club that I attend is a Chicago Bloggers book club that we formed out of our Facebook group. We host book club each month at someone’s apartment and bring food potluck style.
I’m sorry to say that it’s really just for bloggers right now, but I actually joined a book club when I first moved here through MeetUp.com. If you have any questions or want to chat, feel free to send me an email!
Where would you live if you weren’t in Chicago?
I actually just talked to my brother about this over the weekend! There are a few cities that I would love to move to, but the only caveat is that I’ve never even visited them! I have them in mind based on things I’ve read and other people’s opinions: Nashville, Seattle, and Portland would be my top three. I’d also be happy in Kansas City and I kind of have an urge to live in New York for a year or two… You never know!
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
Anywhere other than North America! I’ve only been to two countries other than the United States: the Bahamas and the British Virgin Islands… I am dying to travel and see the world!
What’s your dream vacation?
If I had to choose somewhere specific, I would choose Europe. Just about anywhere! I’d love to start in Ireland, hop over to England, and then just weave my way through as many countries as I could. In other words, my dream vacation would be spending a couple months exploring Europe. Dreaming big over here.
Where would you move if you had to pick a new city?
What’s your dream vacation?
dream vacation is ANYWHERE WARM!!
AMEN
My dream vacation is Europe as well 🙂 if I could love in any city it would be Denver! The city is just so clean, active and beautiful!
I very seriously considered just up and moving there after graduation! Although I think I’d rather live either IN downtown Denver or live somewhere outside of the city. My friend lives there and has to drive through so much traffic
(move to NC!) 🙂
Ah I LOVE NC! My BFF from college grew up in Morganton and I’ve visited many, many times, including her stepfather’s camp ground in Spruce Pine. So gorgeous!
Oh my god, Charleston looks so gorgeous. I’ve never been but have wanted to visit for years. I feel like I’d love the environment. Seems like a great place to live for school. Lucky you! Word of advice: Travel as soon as possible! I’m sure you’ve heard that advice from the older wiser folk, but as a still youthful traveler: Travel Now! They are right. If you have the money saved up just go for it, even if you don’t, just go for it! It’s so much more difficult, the older you get, with each added responsibility. Especially when you’re going for a traditional job with a somewhat more traditional schedule and vacation rules etc. I love traveling a bunch between jobs. So before I commit to another couple years or so of working, I take a really long vacation and explore somewhere. Is that accessible to you right now? Pre job? Ok, that’s my impassioned 2 cents!
I’d go to Patagonia in Argentina for a loooong backpacking trip. In their summer of course. I’m done with this winter thing.
I’ve pretty much dwindled down my savings, but I’d love to travel. I think my problem is I’ve never had someone willing to go with me.
I absolutely love Charleston. It’s such a cute and quaint town 🙂 I wouldn’t mind living in either Charleston or Charlotte, NC.
I’ve only flown into Charlotte but I’ve never spent time there. I hear it’s a great city though!
Katie, you are welcome to stay with me anytime between Feb. and July. I am living in Benidorm, Spain and have room. You could travel from there. Look it up -just north of Alicante on the Mediterranean Sea. Let me know!
Ahhh thank you! Looking into flight costs now…
I always think about where I’d want to move to as well. I’ve been in Chicago my whole life, with the exception of college in Ohio, and think I should go try somewhere else, but I have no idea where!
When I applied to colleges I knew I just wanted to move somewhere on the East Coast. I’d never even been to Charleston before I accepted!
I’m from England! I am sure you would love it 🙂 I am the opposite of you, I would love to move to North America, hopefully New York one day xx
Ah I would LOVE to move to England. I actually applied to two jobs in London a while back!
I think both Seattle and Portland are gorgeous, but I could never live there because of the weather. I love my sunshine!
That’s my only hesitancy on that area! I need me some sun.
We are moving to wherever hubby gets a job after school–so we shall see!
Dream vacay:hawaii, greece, or bahamas!
Oooo exciting! And Greece would be my pick out of your list! Or Hawaii since I’ve never been.
I LOVE Nashville! I’ve been there a four times and I feel like I finally know my way around the city a little. It’s such a cool atmosphere and they have amazing food (Pancake Pantry FTW).
Ahhh so jealous! I’m dying to go.
When you are going to Ireland and the UK, let me know! I have a good few tips for both of those places! I moved to Japan having never been here, it’s been 8 years and I’m still going strong! I’m not sure I would do that now, at my age, but 8 years younger me made a very good decision. Dream vacation? Changes all the time, I’d love to run Honolulu marathon with my friend, visit India, go back to Australia or Thailand, France…. I can’t possibly decide!
Haha if I ever make it there I will definitely announce it on here and let you know! And that’s so amazing that you moved to Japan without visiting – brave move! Haha and I feel the same way – I can’t decide where I want to go, I want to go everywhere!
I would move to D.C. I’m a history teacher and a MASSIVE presidential trivia freak. I travel there every year with my 8th graders and fall more and more in love. I just wish it was a tad more affordable. Chicago is a close second!
I’ve applied to several jobs in DC but kind of halfheartedly, I know it’s so expensive!
