Bon Jovi’s Daughter Overdoses on Heroin; Charges Dropped

The daughter of famed rocker Jon Bon Jovi was arrested earlier this week after suffering an overdose of heroin. Stephanie Rose Bongiovi was arrested at her dorm at Hamilton College by police officers from the Town of Kirkland Police Department. It was reported that the 19-year-old college student overdosed on heroin and was not responding.

Stephanie was found alive by police officers and emergency medical technicians who arrived on the scene in response to the 911 call. According to police officers, a drug task force team searched the scene and discovered a ‘small quantity’ of heroin, drug paraphernalia and marijuana.

She was taken into custody on charges of possession of a controlled substance, criminally using drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. All of those charges are misdemeanors but they have since been dropped. The reason for the charges being dropped is that the state of New York has a law that prohibits overdose victims or those reporting overdose cases from being charged.

The law is the Good Samaritan 911 law, which was signed by governor Andrew Cuomo in July of 2011. The goal of the law is to reduce the deaths caused by overdoses in the state so people do not fear being charged with a crime when reporting overdoses. The dropped charges were announced by Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara, according to the Associated Press.
