If you hadn’t already noticed from the book reviews on my blog, I really love to read. I’m a huge fan of fiction novels, and my current love is young adult dystopias. What you may not know is just how much I read. I only review about half the books I read here on the blog, mostly because I don’t really consider myself much of a literary critic and just read for fun.
I do, however, love to keep track of all the books that I read. I use the Notes App in my iPhone and every time I finish a book I add it to the list. Sometimes I forget so there might be a book or two missing, but I try. In 2013 I read 39 books for pleasure (aka not including law school) – let’s see if I can beat it next year!

What’s the best thing you read this year?
What’s your favorite book of all time?
What book would you recommend I read in 2014?
I never actually keep track of how many books I read in a year – I should start doing that! I’d be curious to see what I end up with. And The Fault in Our Stars was amazing – I’m excited to see the movie when it comes out!
I forgot that was going to be a movie – can’t wait!
How fun! I love all of these idea….so many I’d never think of. I’m doing my “book list” this weekend. I have just *4!*
Saw your book list, looked great!
I notice you read a lot by the same authors usually in a row. Do you like their style of writing or their plots?
Also, do you buy all of your books, borrow, or loan from a library? If you buy maybe you could start a loaning program with all of us.
I usually read a lot by the same author because it’s a series, like a trilogy. And I get ebooks from my library as much as I can, borrow them from friends and otherwise I buy them on my kindle because they’re less expensive.
Love this idea! I’m always looking for new books to read, so this post will be helpful! If only I could actually keep track of the books I read 😉
Goodreads is a great way to keep track!
I keep track of the books that I read too–I have been doing it for two years now. I read waaaay more books in 2012 than in 2013, so my goal in 2014 is to read more than both years combined! The best book I read this year was The Storyteller by Jodi Piccoult.
Ah I’m reading that right now – I LOVE IT!
Ooooh good timing. Enjoy!
Thanks for all the great suggestions! I read What Alice Forgot and really enjoyed it!
Yes, it was a great book!
So many new books on this list that I’ve never read. Thanks for the ideas! I’m definitely going to keep track of the books I read each year. It might make me read MORE actually 😀 I’m almost finished with “The Secret Race,” by Tyler Hamilton. It’s absolutely amazing, and I fall asleep reading it every night.
Me too – the more I keep track the more I want to read. I’ll have to check out The Secret Race!
I just finished Anything but Ordinary by Lara Avery and it was incredible!
T.
I’ll have to check it out!
Our book lists were shockingly similar!
I can’t wait until you come to AZ and we can discuss all kinds of bookish things! 🙂
YES! I CANNOT WAIT!
Just what I needed, good book suggestions! I will definitely be looking at this for new book reads. One of my goals for this year is to jump back into reading. I fell off this past year…oops. Thanks!
Glad you liked it, Alanna!
Great list – I’ve read quite a few of these. The Fault in Our Stars was fantastic – looking forward to the movie. You should check out Goodreads; it’s an awesome way to keep track of the books you’ve read, get recommendations, see what friends are reading, etc.
I love Goodreads – I linked to my profile at the bottom of the post!
Wow, you read a lot! Especially considering you were in law school and taking the bar at the same time! I used to read a lot, but, as I’m doing grad school part time and working, I don’t have as much motivation as I used to. I should try some off your list!
I loved it as an escape from school – although I barely read at all during the bar exam, no time!
Thank you for this – I LOVE reading but have not made enough time for it the past few years. I hope to change that this year and there are a few on your list that I’ve been eyeing! If you could recommend just one (aside from The Bell Jar and The Glass Castle, since I’ve read those), which would it be? Good for you for keeping track of these!
Ah so hard to choose, especially when I’m not sure what you love, but I would have to say The Fault in Our Stars. It was a great book and it’s being made into a movie!
You should try the Goodreads app! It’s a blast!
Oh I didn’t know there’s an app, thanks!
