A few months ago I decided to put together an "inspiration board." I thought it would be a nice way to decorate a blank wall, while also being a creative outlet. To put together the board I’ve found pictures or articles in magazines, torn them out and taped them together. I’ve slowly been adding things that I find, along with printing out quotes that I like from pinterest.
I joke (with Neville…) that my apartment still looks like I’m in college. Seeing as I don’t typically host guests, I’m pretty okay with that. Plus I don’t have any income to buy things, so I’ve got to be creative!
Since I liked making this inspiration board so much, I decided to also start one to motivate me for the Chicago Marathon. It’s pretty sparse right now, but I’ve got my training schedule, and some tips I found in Runners World Magazine. I hope to keep adding throughout the summer
and I’ll be sure to share it with you all!
I mentioned before that because I’m doing the CARA program, I’m following Hal Higdon’s Novice Marathon Training Program. Here’s what it looks like:
I might make the long runs a bit longer in the beginning, especially since I did 8 this past weekend instead of 6. Also, I’ve moved the Tuesday runs to Monday, so I’m not running 3 days in a row. I learned this past fall that running too many days in a row causes injuries for me, and I definitely don’t want any injuries this summer!
I’m also hoping to post my workouts for each week, that way you all can see what I’m doing to train. And I’m always welcome to suggestions and tips, this is very new to me!
Here’s last week:
Monday – 2 miles, full body strength training
Tuesday – upper body strength training
Wednesday – 4 miles
Thursday – 3 miles
Friday – 2.5 mile walk (active rest)
Saturday – 8 miles
Sunday – REST
What do you use as a creative outlet?
What are your workouts looking like this week?
I actually think of blogging as a creative outlet for me. I love taking pictures and thinking of topics to write about. I like your inspiration board. Do you happen to watch the show Happy Endings? There was a really funny episode a few months ago about inspiration boards.
It’s definitely a huge creative outlet for me!
This is such a good idea! My creative outlet also comes from blogging. It helps push me to do more and try more things!
I definitely see blogging as a creative outlet!
I did a similar thing with my training plan! I think posting it on the wall like that in physical paper is a nice way to motivate yourself. Crossing things off a list, physically with a pen, motivates me so much more!
I love crossing things off lists, I always write out elaborate to do lists!
I love that idea of a wall of inspiration! I’m running my first half and will definitely be trying this out to keep me motivated! 🙂
It’s fun to cross of each run as you complete it!
I’ve been wanting to start some sort of craft for a long time now! I just need to find the time and decide what to do 🙂
Haha I have too many in mind but not enough time!
Love your boards!! I totally use inspiration boards and vision boards too. It is a beautiful thing! Love some of your quotes 🙂
Thanks, Annette!
I used that Higdon program twice and I think it’s great for your first marathon. I marathon trained last summer with CARA and loved it.
I’m glad to hear you liked it! I was nervous at first that it wouldn’t be enough training, but I’m feeling more confident about it!
Great boards! I have one in my room as well, with a lot of fitness related stuff – motivation at your fingertips 🙂
Creative outlet, well blogging is the latest i guess!
I loved the Hal Higdon training plan for my half marathon! That’s great that you have friends/support for yours 🙂
i honestly have always thought people who run marathons run a lot longer distances than that to train for it. this actually looks like something i could do in time, maybe! i’ve just run my first 5k 🙂
I love the idea of an inspiration board. I always say I am going to make one and then don’t… I have bits of things in different places, but one set board would be nice. I like the marathon inspiration board too! I can’t believe training has started – AHH!
Ahhh scary and exciting!!!!
