Wait, WHAT!?!?
A post on Saturday?!??
The insanity.
Last night I had a “date night” with my friend Chelsey. On Friday she mentioned me TWICE in her blog post to make me feel bad for not mentioning her in my Thursday Thoughts post. So now I’m making a WHOLE POST just about our evening to counter-act her double mention in Friday’s post. Makes sense, right?
And yes, this is a joke – we don’t actually make each other feel bad based on blog mentions.
Anyway, want to know the reason that I’m so excited to tell you about last night that I couldn’t wait another day?
WE WENT TO YOGURTLAND!!!!
For those of you who aren’t huge frozen yogurt fans like myself, Yogurtland is a very popular self-serve frozen yogurt chain, but it is mostly found out west. It recently came to Chicago and I resisted for a WHOLE FOUR WEEKS so I could go for the first time with my fro-yo loving friend, Chelsey. It’s our thing.
But I’m getting ahead of myself.
We started out by getting an…. early dinner at RA Sushi. And by early, I mean we were there at 5pm. I was going to make reservations but realized it was horribly unnecessary, and embarrassing.
Sushi is also our thing.
I ordered a tuna roll, shrimp nigiri, and… quail eggs. Haha, they were only $2 and I thought I should try something new!
Little did I know they came raw… I had to eat them like a shot! I had one, it wasn’t half bad but I’m pretty sure they put soy sauce in there (I’m soy intolerant), so I just had the one. (Chelsey has a picture of me eating the quail egg… we’ll see if I can obtain that. I might not want to…).
Chelsey ordered their vegetarian roll, and was rather sad when it came out wrapped in lettuce rather than seaweed!
Sad face…
Haha she learned her lesson I guess, at least if she ever goes to RA again!
After RA, we headed over the main event of the evening:
YOGURTLAND!!!
After sampling almost every single flavor (pretty sure I skipped over 3…), we finally got our yogurt and sat down for some more chatting.
Oh, and more picture taking. Because we love that.
I got Dutch Chocolate, Madagascar Vanilla Bean, and a smidge of Red Velvet Cupcake. Toppings included strawberries, raspberries, mochi, reeses peanut butter cups and a few peanut M&Ms (my FAVORITE!).
Oh, and a gummi heart! Forgot about that until I looked at the picture again. Very good, and clearly left over from Valentine’s Day. Perfect for our post Valentines date night!
I really enjoyed Yogurtland, but I have to be honest, I think Mochi is better! It’s a hard call, they’re both pretty amazing. Yogurtland does win points for being in downtown Chicago! It also wins major points because I felt just like Janae! Haha, she’s the person I learned so much about Yogurtland from!
I wish Chelsey and I lived a little closer, I’d love to see her all the time! I guess we’ll just need to plan more frozen yogurt meet-ups in the future. Woe is me… haha.
When was your last “date night” with a friend?
Where is your favorite frozen yogurt or ice cream place?
Are you a sushi fan?
love sushi and love froyo!!! best date ever!! and quail egg… wow you sure are adventurous!!! 🙂
I’ll try just about anything once!
I LOVE froyo! I currently have one called Sincerely Yogurt near me and a Moo Moo opening close by. I also taste test just about all flavors every time I go. What can I say, I like sampling 🙂 I am not a sushi lover, or liker at all, but you go girl for trying that egg! Have a great weekend!
Haha I always try the flavors, even if I know I already like them! You have a great weekend too, Heather!
Love friend date nights! Huge sushi fan and I’ve also been to RA Sushi before! My favorite froyo is Forever Yogurt… although I haven’t tried many froyo places so I’m sure there are other great ones out there!
Forever is REALLY good! I love going there!
We don’t have Yogurtland or Mochi around here, but I’ll admit…I don’t like froyo! Sushi on the other hand…yum! We had some last night and I splurged and got signature rolls. DELISH 🙂
I’m always a little weary of signature rolls, since I can’t have soy or gluten I’ve had a few incidents where it came out with a sauce or tempura and I didn’t realize! They are good though!
That’s such a huge bummer that Chelsey’s veggie sushi didn’t come with seaweed! I love me some veggie sushi and I would be really sad if they substituted lettuce for seaweed. I think I’m going to try to get some froyo on Sunday after my long run. I’ve seen so many bloggers eating it lately and now I’m really craving some. I’m glad you had a great night!
I hadn’t had froyo in about 6 weeks, I was definitely craving it! Have a great long run, Beth!
Sushi + yogurt? Sounds like a *perfect* night to me!
Haha pretty perfect!
I’m impressed that you tried quail egg, I’d like to think that I’m an adventurous eater but I would probably balk at that one.
And sushi will always be one of my favourites – the boyfriend and I are going for a belated Valentine’s sushi date tonight!
I have a froyo place about a 5 minute walk from me that I have an insane amount of gift cards before…I haven’t been going too often because of the weather, but once spring hits…it’s game on :-p
I’ll try just about anything once! Have fun on your date tonight!
company like that is always the best part of any night. glad you guys had such a great time
Thanks, Alex!
Two of my favorite ladies and two of my favorite foods all in one post… LOVE IT! Glad you gals had a fun date night! 😉
Haha it was a good post! Wish you were there too!
It looks like you had a really fun date night!
It was!
I love sushi , froyo and good friends! What a fun night! We have OrangeLeaf in Lexington and there froyo is pretty good but my favorite would probably have to be Pinkberry!
I’ve never heard of OrangeLeaf! And I think Pinkberry is good, I just like to do the self serve part so much!
That sounds like so much fun! And, what a coincidence, because on Thursday night I had a Valentine’s day date with my best friend, and we went for fro-yo too! Great minds think alike 😉 I am a frozen yogurt addict! I can’t get enough. I’m also a huge sushi fan. Spicy tuna rolls are my favorite!
have a great weekend!
Definitely great minds think alike, froyo is the best friend date activity!
WTF sushi wrapped in lettuce, NO NO NO!!!!!!!! The creator of sushi is rolling over in his grave right now! LOL! And oh man, I am the QUEEN of sushi… Seriously, every single time I go out to eat, yep, SUSHI! I don’t think my friends have ever seen me eat anything else – LOL!! Oh and I don’t actually eat sushi, I eat sashimi and all the weird menu items like hamachi kama, unagi, escolar, etc! SOOOO GOOD 😀
Don’t you fret – I made up for it today by getting Whole Food’s sushi for lunch. Redemption!
Haha I don’t know what most of those things are, just sashimi!
Froyo sushi and chelsey all in one night??? You are a lucky lady! Glad to see you guys had fun!!
very lucky!
Sigh. Sushi. Frozen yogurt. You two need to start drawing me into these nights out! Hey. You know how to use PicMonkey. 😉
totally drawing you in next time!
I looooooved our senior citizen date last night. It was the best. Minus the lettuce. BUT. I did go to Whole Foods to get sushi for lunch so I could taste the delciousness that is nori.
senior citizens for the win.
I tried quail eggs on a dare from my husband a few years ago… not bad at all! In fact, I tried to find them in the store for some quail omelets, until I realized it would take the entire carton for 1 omelet. I love sushi but now that I am vegan, I don’t go often because veggie sushi just isn’t the same.
Hahaha they are a little tiny for a omelet!
[…] everyone, I hope you’re all having a great weekend! Mine’s been pretty laid back (other than my great date night), lots of cleaning and school work. However, I’m hoping to get in some more quality friend time […]
I had Yogurtland when I was in Maui and I loved it! I also really like Pinkberry — but it’s ridiculously expensive.
I think Pinkberry is alright but I just hate that it’s not self serve!
That sounds amazing–sushi, yogurtland, and an awesome blogger friend date?!? What a fantastic night!!
It was great!
Yogurtland is the best even with all the new ones coming in! I’m glad they’re moving to the midwest as well because before long we’ll be there too 🙂
I like sushi in places that have water close. Haha after an incident in AZ I won’t have sushi inland. That sushi looks glorious though!
Looks like a fun night!
Oh dear, I’m sure if I had a sushi incident I’d be freaked out about it too!
[…] Luckily I’m getting lunch and froyo with CHELSEY!!! I haven’t seen this girl since our wild and crazy sushi night, so I am more than excited to see her and her pregnant babies bump! Yes, babies, […]
