Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend, I definitely did! I headed up to Denver to spend the weekend with my friend, Maddie, who’s one of my best friends from growing up in Kansas City. My mom dropped me off in Denver and after a look at a couple of the Denver Art Museum’s new exhibits we headed back to her place and then out for cocktails and dinners at a couple different bars in her neighborhood.
The next morning we headed to a new Udi’s café in her neighborhood for breakfast. Since I’m a big fan of Udi’s gluten free products I was excited to try out the café. I was surprised at how big it was, it looks like it would be great for dinner as well.
They had a big breakfast menu, and also have sandwiches, salads and pizza for lunch and dinner. I was surprised though because I was expecting it to be all gluten free, which it was not and often you had to pay extra for gluten free bread… womp womp. I only knew about Udi’s because of their gluten free products and didn’t realize that they were a bakery/catering service beyond just their gluten free stuff!
I ordered their Verde juice, which was pretty good:
For breakfast I ordered the Udi’s breakfast sandwich with avocado, cheese and egg. I love that they served the sandwich with a slice of watermelon, however the bun was so thick that it was just all bread, I had to ditch some of the bread to enjoy the sandwich. Maddie loved hers though!
After breakfast and a few errands, we headed out to Longhopes Donkey Shelter. Maddie loves horses and donkeys so she wanted to check out the shelter, and you know I love a good petting zoo. We were lucky enough to be there in time to see a 4 day old baby donkey! He was SO cute and his legs were ridiculously long for his little body and hooves. Died.
Baby donkey and her mom, Penny!
We also found a little miniature donkey named Melody wandering around in the yard and we became fast friends.
We headed home, showered up, had a few cocktails and a dance party then headed off to the Bronco’s game. I hadn’t been to an NFL game in a very long time, so I was excited for the game!
The Broncos pulled out a win and we had a great time watching the game. Afterwards we headed out to Ocean Prime in downtown Denver for more drinks and the most amazing truffle fries I’ve ever had (and a shrimp cocktail).
Maddie dropped me off at the airport before she had to head to work in the morning and I had an easy flight back to Chicago. It was so weird to be back after so long away, especially since my mind is already set to move into my new apartment – which will be happening this upcoming weekend!
It was a great weekend in Denver and the perfect end to my trip!
Have you been to an NFL game recently? What’s your team? (GO CHIEFS!!)
Have you ever pet a donkey? Haha, are you a horse fan?
GO RAMS!!!! haha looks really fun!! hey petting zoos are fun at any age! 🙂 🙂
haha too bad they LOST!
oooh we love us a good petting zoo too and need us a good mother/daughter october trip!
yes, you do! Mother/daughter trips are the best, I still love doing them with my mom!
I’m actually planning the most epic 25th birthday weekend for my boyfriend. We’re COLTS fans, so we’re heading to Indy to see them vs the Broncos. Yep, Manning’s first time back in Indy since the trade. SO INTENSE!
Also, the biggest fan of horses!
Oh that will be so cool! What a great birthday present!
OMG that baby donkey is ADORABLE!!! My team is the Packers… went to a game last year and it was amazing!!
I’m sure their games are fun!!
baby donkey is sooo cute.
our niece loves going to petting zoos – she likes sheep and goats 🙂
Haha I love sheep too! I like this girl 🙂
I’ve never been to an NFL game, but considering that football is the only sport I can stand to watch on TV I think I would like it! My family’s team is Pittsburgh – come playoffs there’s black and yellow stuff all over my parents house.
Haha well if it’s the only sport you’ll watch you should totally go to a game! So fun!
That breakfast sandwich looks really tasty, but I must agree that the bun seems like a weird choice by the restaurant for a breakfast sandwich. It needs a bagel or an English muffin, I think!
Haha I agree, I was hoping for a bagel!
Looks like a great weekend!! GO PACKERS! Although Cody would LIKE for me to say that I’m a Bears fan…pshh, no way. 😉
Haha I’m only a Bears fan if the Chiefs aren’t playing!
Udi’s has a CAFE?! I’m UBER jealous 🙂
Seriously!!! They have a ton in Denver! I had no idea!
Oh that sounds like such a perf weekend! Mmmmm fries sound good right now 😉
I had no idea Udi’s had a cafe?!?
Um me neither! They have several locations in Denver!
Oh.. my…. gosh. that donkey is ADORABLE!
I havent really been around horses much, but they are pretty cool!
I’m not around them much either but I LOVE them!
what a fun post… love the photos, any post with a donkey is always a win.
Haha I agree, donkeys make a day better!
What is your favorite Udi’s bread?
Their whole grain!
OMG I want a pet donkey so badly. They don’t smell amazing, but whatever, their cuteness rules! Ah ha ah! I used to live in Boulder/Denver for college! So this post brings back memories. I remember bring my boyfriend at the time to the Broncos game in November. And we TOTALLY UNDER DRESSED – we were FREEEEZING, the person next to us had an extra thin blanket that helped…. a TINY BIT but I had never been SOOOOO happy to get out of a sporting event lol!!! We did have seats on the field pretty much though, which was cool!
Oh gosh, I’m sure the game was freezing in November!!!
[…] also headed up to Denver again to round out my month of […]
