Eversheds Expands into Saudi Arabia

EvershedsEversheds has formalized an alliance with Saudi Arabia’s Hani Qurashi.

The 20-lawyer firm in the Middle Eastern dictatorship has offices in the Red Sea coastal town of Jeddah and in the capital, Riyadh. It is managed by founding partner Hani Al Qurashi and executive partner Hany Kassem.

Eversheds also has offices in Doha, Qatar and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Two weeks ago, Eversheds launched a redundancy consultation targeting 10 lawyers in its real estate practice, and deferred start dates for incoming associates.

Eversheds LLP is one of the largest full service law firms in the world. Headquartered in London, it has 40 offices in major cities across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and China.

  1. Right. How is that not a dictatorship?

    Ah, I see. Wikipedia says: “A dictatorship is defined as an autocratic form of government in which the government is ruled by an individual, the dictator, *without hereditary ascension*.”

    Still, the word “monarchy” has connotations of the pleasant little old lady who lives in Buckingham Palace. Saudi Arabia is a brutal autocracy. I think the word “dictatorship” is the only word with a sufficiently negative connotation to most people.
