Follow the Yellow Brick Road

Hello everyone! I hope you’re all having a great weekend! As many of you know, I’ve been in Kansas City this week, but today my parents and I headed out to Colorado for a week of relaxation. I realize this is probably the last time that I’ll have stretches of unlimited vacation time, so I thought I should take advantage and head out to Colorado Springs one last time before I (hopefully) start life in the “real world.”

Driving from Kansas City, we have to cross the entire state of Kansas, and then a good bit of the flat section of Colorado to get to Colorado Springs. Although a lot of people think it must be flat and boring, I personally think it’s a really pretty drive. What can I say, I’m a Kansas and Missouri girl at heart.

My dad I headed out at 7:10am, hit up the Roasterie one last time, and then we were on the road!

We started up playing the license plate game, but got bored quickly. We also considered seeing how many different types of animals we saw on the side of the road (the nice way of saying road kill) but I thought that was just a bit morbid for the blog… We ended up listening to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (which I purchased online from Pottermore) and I was a happy camper!

We saw some of the biggest tires I’ve ever seen:

And this lovely antique “store” outside of Limon, CO:

I also tried out this Buffalo Jerkey that I bought at Natural Grocers in Kansas City and I really liked it!

No soy sauce too, which is hard to find. And yes, I love jerky. #noshame

We finally made it to Colorado Springs, and since my mom was an hour or so behind us, we thought we’d sit out on the driveway so she’d have a lovely greeting when she arrived. Yes, we try to keep it classy.

Now I’m already thinking about dinner… Love it here.

Do you take road trips very often?

What’s the longest drive you’ve made? (mine was 20 hours: Flagstaff, AZ to Kansas City!)

Have you ever driven across Kansas?

  1. I don’t take many roadtrips any more (unless you count the hour and half ones I take to university and back a few times a year). When we were younger we used to go on vacation and drive the 16ish hours to Toronto and then go to Boston for a little bit.

I’ve nominated you for a Liebster Award! Check out my post to read more about it. Congrats, you deserve it 🙂

  2. Glad you found the HP audiobooks. Jim Dale is a great narrator! I was going to suggest ebay or the library to get them…
My longest road trip was probably when I moved to Chicago from Florida. We drove all through the night and then my car broke down in Kentucky, which made the 16 hr trip 18 hrs… It was an adventure to say the least! Seeing the windmills was really cool though.

Have fun in Colorado!! I want to go back so bad.

  3. Hmm. That jerky sounds marvelous. Whenever I see something that’s soy-free I’m super impressed too. It seems like almost EVERYTHING delicious uses soy sauce for flavoring.

Longest driving trip ever I think would have to be Ohio to Florida- 17 hours.
