Raven Symone was a cast member on one of the most iconic and successful sitcoms in history, “The Cosby Show.” She played Olivia, the step-daughter of Denise Huxtable.
Now, she recently did an interview with Oprah Winfrey and spoke about a lot of things going on in her life. These topics include her sexuality, her race and her decision to no longer be called African-American.
Symone explains her decision to Winfrey towards the end of the interview:
“I’m an American. That’s a colorless person ’cause we’re all people. I have lots of things running through my veins.”
Oprah presses her by saying, “I mean, you are gonna get a lot of flags for saying you’re not African-American. You know that, right?”
“I don’t label myself. What I really mean by that is I am an American. That’s what I really mean. I have darker skin. I have a nice, interesting grade of hair. I connect with Caucasian. I connect with Asian. I connect with Black. I connect with Indian. I connect with each culture.”
“You are a melting pot in one body,” Winfrey said.
“Aren’t we all? Isn’t that what America is supposed to be?”
