Former PD Schiffrin joins Grant & Eisenhofer

Richard S. SchiffrinFormer public defender Richard S. Schiffrin has joined Wilmington, Delaware’s Grant & Eisenhofer as of counsel.

In 1987 Schiffrin founded a firm once bearing his name, now called Barroway Topaz Kessler Meltzer & Check, growing it to 55 attorneys. He announced his retirement from the firm last February, and has since focused on teaching, writing, and political & philanthropic interests.

Schiffrin has worked with Grant & Eisenhofer as co-counsel on several cases. In 2007, he helped secure a $3.2 billion settlement in a securities class action against Tyco International.

Grant & Eisenhofer is handling  an investigation into the losses stemming from Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi scheme. The firm is investigating to what extent Madoff’s accounting firms, feeder funds and other third parties may have been lax in due diligence efforts.

Grant & Eisenhofer is a national litigation boutique that concentrates on corporate governance and securities litigation and other complex class actions. In addition to Wilmington, the firm has offices in New York and Washington.
