Happy Birthday To Me…

Happy Birthday to me,

Happy Birthday to me,

Happy Birthday dear meeeeeeeeeeeeeee,

Happy birthday to ME! Yay!

Did I not mention it’s my birthday today? Haha, well it is! Things have been so busy for me that I’d forgotten it was coming up!

Well, today I am 25 years old. 1/4 of a century. I’d like to say that it has all gone by so fast, but really, I kind of feel 25. Granted, I am no where near where I’d imagined I’d be at this point in my life. When I was younger I always thought I’d be married by 25, and having children when I was 27/28. Or at least have a job… HA.

I guess law school tends to put things off in life? Just a different path than I imagined, but I don’t believe in regrets or mistakes in life, everything we’ve been through makes us who we are and I can’t wait to be older looking back on this part of my life… hopefully it will make sense then.

But in 25 years I feel like I’ve done quite a lot. Most of it has been spent in school… but beyond that I’ve played tons of sports, spent many summers at camp, gone on sailing trips and lived on boats, had many different friends, gone on some great trips with my family and then with college friends, moved across the country alone for college, got a degree in marine biology, finished 2 years of law school, ran a marathon and kept a fish alive for over 2 years. Ha, had to throw that last one in there.

Sometimes it’s nice to look back at how you’ve changed over the years, and all the great things you’ve accomplished, and what better day to do that than a birthday?

For your entertainment (okay, for mine) here are some birthdays from the past:

Has your life timeline gone as you imagined?

25 feels old but I don’t even feel like an adult yet… Anyone else?

  1. Happy Birthday! No, my life has not gone as I thought it would. I thought I’d have a career before I got married, and live by myself for a little while after college, but that did not happen at all. It’s a good thing too, because I’m a baby when I’m home by myself…and I didn’t like my desk job :).

    • Haha living alone just isn’t for some people! And career-wise I think we’re both similarly lost and confused! Hopefully we’ll figure it out!

  2. Happy birthday!!! Do you have any special plans for the day? 🙂

Haha I love the pictures of you growing up – especially the baby pic! I have a picture of myself as a baby covered in cake just like that one!

Life definitely hasn’t gone as I expected for me – I didn’t think I would switch degrees and still be in undergrad! And I didn’t think I would be studying to be an RD either. When I was 7 I wanted to be a zoologist haha! 😛

I hope you have an amazing day Katie!

  3. Happy birthday Katie!!! May your year bring you more joy than you could ever fathom!! Don’t sweat about planning your future — plans will change!
I never pictured being where I am right now, or having lived what I have, but I’m incredibly grateful that I have. The wisdom that I’ve gained is unparalleled. I love my life and would not trade a single second!! 😀

  4. Hope you have a fantastic birthday!

I don’t think anyone’s timeline really goes the way the expected! When I was a kid, I wanted to be a veterinarian or an actress. But now I’m a criminology grad student – pretty far cry from animals or movies!

  5. Yes, I can relate! I never feel like I am grown up and married. I’m the opposite in terms of what I thought my life would be. I NEVER thought I would get married young. I always pictured myself getting married around 29/30. Life knows better apparently.

I will be celebrating with you this weekend. I hope you are practicing your moves!

  6. Happy Birthday!!! I love the past birthday photos. My life most certainly has not gone how I ever thought it would. When I was 10, for example, I never thought I would be in Russia right now (I probably didn’t even know what Russia was at that point). Enjoy your day and the unforeseeable future! It’s so exciting!

  7. Happy Birthday!!!

My timeline went sort of according to my plan but a lot faster than I ever expected! When I moved to Chicago five years ago, I never really felt the urge to get married. Then I met my husband and things changed quickly. At 25 I didn’t feel like an adult yet. I’m 26 now and I’m starting to REALLY feel like an adult. My husband is 31 so he ages me. 🙂

  8. I never thought about making a point to reflect on things on my birthday, but that’s such a good idea. Happy Birthday! Have a wonderful day!

  9. Happy Birthday! My life has definitely not gone as I thought it would. I figured I’d still be in school (med school) and I never thought I would have moved to a different city for a boyfriend (there were other reasons too). I guess I’ve learned to just roll with the punches, it’s nice to have goals and dreams but you just never know what life is going to give ya!

Have a great day and I love that baby picture of you- so cute!

    • Definitely learning to roll with the bunches! And so glad you moved here or I wouldn’t have met you and wouldn’t have run the funniest 5K of my life!

  10. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

My life, oddly enough, has actually kind of followed what I fantasy expected, but not what I really expected, if that makes any sense. When I was in high school, way, waaaaaaaay before I had any actual desire to move to Chicago, I had this fantasy that I would end up living in Chicago working at a publishing house. Soo…yep. I never seriously believed that would actually happen, though. Good work, imagination. Haha. (The original version of this fantasy also involved me falling hopelessly in love with a cowboy somewhere around the age of 22 or 23 and him proposing to me in the most romantic of fashions on either my 23rd or 24th birthday. Incidentally, I do now go to church with an extremely attractive former cowboy…I’m holding out hope that my imagination was as spot-on with that as it was with the whole living/job situation hahaha).

    • Haha so you did get what you imagined! And yes, I would also love to be proposed to by a cowboy, hopefully it will work out for you though! It sounds like you have better chances…

  11. Wow. Congratulations on 25 years!! You make me feel… like a baby. Haha. You are 7 years older than me! 🙂

What special things do you have planned today? Or would that ruin the surprise of tomorrow’s WIAW?? 😀

I love the last picture of you and Molly. She’s looks so muc younger!

  12. happy birthday to you! I remember 25 as a really great transition; wishing you the very best!
(ps – my life has not gone according to plan. sometimes it’s hard to bump up against that in my mind, but mostly, it really is all good!)

  13. Happy Birthday! I’m almost at 25 too and definitely not where I thought I would be when I was a kid. Though, kids at 28 was my thought, so that may still happen (shakes head no). Enjoy your day and many hugs your way!

  14. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!! I hope you have a fabulous, wonderful day!!!! 🙂
Oddly enough, my life is on the EXACT path as I imagined when I was 8. (Ok, not exact, because now I’m living in Canada. And my ideas changed once I got to high school and college and realized I would probably be in school forever and would rather workout than go on a date). Funny how life happens!

  15. Happy Birthday Katie! Your blog has been an inspiration to me as a fellow runner:) I hope you had a wonderful day! I hope I can accomplish a full marathon by 25 as well:)

  16. Happy birthday!!! I usually feel older than I am (and sometimes forget I’m only 20 haha), especially because my boyfriend is 24. I’m around him so much that I just start to think I’m his age I guess. Plus, I’m graduating college in December, and 20 is kinda young for that. I don’t think you look 25 — you look really young. I know people probably tell you that ALL THE TIME, and they tell me the same thing! But guess who will still look 35 when they’re 43?? US! haha

    • 20 is young for graduating! Congrats on finishing so early! Haha and yes, I hear I look young a lot, but, yes, I know it will come in handy later!!
