A mentally ill man has been charged with beheading his mother with a sword. Matthew Skalitzky, 40, of Wisconsin had his bail set at $1 million for the death of his mother on September 11. His mother, Jane Skalitzky, 68, was a retired special education teacher.
Matthew became upset with his mother when she discovered a box of his knives and swords. The prosecution is trying to prove his mental health issues caused him to see humans as inhuman clones. After killing his mother, he allegedly told his roommate he had “hacked the clone.”
Dane County Court Commissioner Dan Floeter set bail at $1 million to ensure that Matthew would remain in custody. The defense attorney said bail wasn’t necessary since Skalitzky was being held in a mental health facility.
The roommate shared the details of the encounter with police. He said Matthew’s mother arrived at the townhouse and was friendly whereas Matthew was “distant and unemotional.” The mother and son went upstairs. After 10 to 15 minutes the roommate heard stomping noises. When he got halfway up the stairs, he heard Jane yelling, “No, no, no.” He arrived to see Matthew holding the sword and his decapitated mother’s body.
The roommate then took the sword from Matthew without resistance. He brought him downstairs to sit on the couch while he called 911. When Matthew was asked if his mother was dead, he said, “Yes, but she’s not my real mother.”
