It’s MARCH!!! Can you believe it?! I can! I’m so excited for this month, I’ve got lots of fun things coming up. Obviously, we have book club this weekend which is one of my favorite things ever. I’m also running a trail 5K, going home for a few days, then off to Colorado for the rest of of my spring break, and once the month is over I am officially 1.5 months from graduating law school!!!!
Seeing as it’s the beginning of a new month, it’s time to go over February’s goals and then tell you all my goals for March. Just a reminder, these aren’t hard-set hit or miss goals. Just things that I hope to think about and work on, along with many other parts of my life. I just think it’s helpful to write things down every once and a while, and re-evaluate things that I’m doing (or not doing).
First, here’s a look at how I did with February’s Goals:
1. Follow May Cause Miracles every day. Um yea… if you read my “Not Perfect” post closely, you’d know I fell off the bandwagon on Day 16. I really found the book helpful during week 1 but for some reason couldn’t get week 2 to connect. I still really think this book will be beneficial for me so I hope to get back into it.
2. Get back into strength training. DONE! I’ve been doing 2-3 Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 DVDs a week, plus going to my gym’s version of body pump 1-2 times per week. I’m really loving the class because it forces me to push myself so much harder than I would on my own and the Jillian videos are great because they really get my heart rate up and only take about 25 minutes!
3. Look into freelance writing. Done as well! Not as much as I’d hoped, but especially this past week I got into sending my work to a few different places. I’m still trying to find a health or food oriented local publication to Chicago to try and submit to, but I haven’t yet. Any ideas?
I’m glad my goals for February weren’t too lofty and I was able to keep up with them for the most part. Since I’ll be spending about 10 days away from Chicago in March due to spring break (my last one EVER!) I plan on making this months goals laid back as well, and something that won’t be affected by traveling.
March Goals:
1. Get an article published. Haha, okay, so this is a bit of a lofty goal, but it is something I can do from wherever I am. I really need to give this a real try, whether it’s on a website or in print, I need to try and get SOMETHING published! Freelance writing, here I come!
2. Read 2 books for fun. Reading for pleasure fell to the wayside during February. I was busy and the thought of adding more onto my plate was just too much. I do love reading though and think a month off has me ready to charge back into it. I also want to read before bed rather than being on my computer since I know it helps me fall asleep much faster.
3. Make 2 recipes from my pinterest board. I Pin recipes all the time, but I NEVER actually make them. Seriously, NEVER! I’m such a creature of habit, but there are so many great looking recipes I feel like I should leave my kitchen comfort zone and try something new! Which ones to choose is the real problem…
Do you often make recipes that you find?
What are you reading right now?
How do you incorporate strength training into your workout routine?
I need to actually make some of the recipes I’ve pinned, too…I’ve got so many of them up there but I never actually make them!
Haha I have SO many!
I’m reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes right now for one of my classes. I haven’t read a book “for fun” in a few months though, and my list keeps piling higher and higher.
I hope you get that freelance writing job!
P.S. I’m currently posting this comment through Blog Lovin. I switched! 🙂
It’s hard to read for fun when you’ve got school, and I’m glad you’re liking bloglovin’!!
I love making recipes I have pinned on pinterest! I used to be really good about trying at least one new pin a week. I even created a board to move all the items I had already made to to help motivate me to make more! I need to start doing that again! Good luck on getting published!
That’s really great that you try so many!
I’m trying to finish The Jungle by Upton Sinclair that I started oh last summer!
Haha I have books like that, I started Anna Karenina in November and haven’t touched it since the end of December!
That’s so exciting that you are almost done with law school! Wohoo! 🙂 I have fallen off the band wagon in terms of strength training but my gym has a muscle work class that I am going to start doing. A trail 5k sounds like fun. My spring break is towards the end of march. Happy Friday! 🙂
Definitely go to the class, I find they’re much more motivating to get in my strength training!
i always pin recipes but never get around to making most of them as well!
we’ll both have to work on it!
I’ve been doing pretty well with strength these days. I never used to like it or think it was important, but now I really love it, and realize how much stronger it’s making me. And right now I’m reading a cheesy Nora Roberts book 🙂 Love those!
That’s great you’ve gotten so much out of strength training!
For me I love to bake so when I see a recipe a really want to try I usually make it within a week, but as for cooking I’m a slacker haha 🙂
I’ve become a slacker on both fronts!
Great goals! I usually never make recipes exactly as I find them – I always tend to change them up a bit. I do need to get to work on a few on my Pinterest boards tho!
I definitely change things up, usually to fit what I already have in my kitchen!
Ugh I need to get better at making crap I pin. I have like 43904 recipes pinned and have tried like 2…
lol only 43,902 to go!
Great goals for this month. I totally bombed February goals lol
I do make recipes from Pinterest. I have been cooking more lately (trying to learn and hubby is loving that I’m attempting to).
I’m reading a business ebook/report on Kindle right now.
That’s great that you’ve got your husband to cook for, I think I’d put more effort into my cooking if someone else was eating it too!
Good job!!
I am currently reading Mindy Kalig’s book “Is everyone hanging out without me” I started it a while ago and I got distracted and set it down for a while but just started reading last night. its a quick read but im just doing a little hear and there because ive been so tired at night (when i usually read).
And I have made about 70% of the recipes on my pinterest boards!!! Crazy! i told myself i cant pin anymore until i started making some of them. i feel like its somewhat of an accomplishment HAHA
Oh I so want to read that book!
I love these goals. I need to get better at making recipes, that has been on my goal list for a while
Haha that’s been on my goal list in the back of my mind for years…
I love your March goals! My fiance is currently freelancing as a graphic designer and it is really interesting to watch the process!
I have been trying to make the recipes that I pin. It is hard because I have so many cookbooks to cook from!
I have a few cookbooks, but I haven’t cracked them open yet…
I try to make 1-2 new recipes a week. I have a separate board on pinterest for meals to make that week (sort of my way of meal planning) and I just move pins around so that I make 1 big recipe for lunches and 1 smaller recipe for dinner each week. It’s not a perfect system but for the most part it works for me. Plus, keeping them in a separate board makes it so easy to find the recipe when it comes time to cook.
I just started adding strength training in 2-3x week and I really like it… after I do it! I’m still not super motivated to start a strength workout but I enjoy the benefits and they make me feel good. Progress!
Um, that’s a way better system than I use, which is randomly shop and then figure it out!
I have been trying to make recipes I find on Pinterest, but being that I don’t cook dinner(my mom still does- perk of living at home right now!) its hard! I use it for appetizers a lot though, and then baking 🙂 I don’t have a book to read right now, but I miss reading and want to get back into it. I incorporate strength training at least 2x a week using dumbbells and resistance, and sometimes a third day. I LOVE IT!
I actually use recipes more when I’m at home because I offer to help my mom or make dinner for everyone. I feel like I’m more motivated when other people are eating the food!
I try to make 1-2 new recipes a week but it’s definitely hard with work! I do a little freelance writing. I have to make use of that journalism degree somehow haha. If you are interested, sometimes they are food and health jobs posted on http://www.freelancewritinggigs.com. Best of luck! I love your writing style and blog so I have a feeling you won’t have troubles finding freelance working.
Thanks for the information, Alaine!
I am currently reading the name of the wind which is awesome. Amanda from Running With Spoons recommended it and she was spot on…if you like fantasy, you will enjoy this! Yay for spring break quickly approaching! Live it up for all of us who don’t have one anymore 😉
I love fantasy type novels, I’ll have to add it to my list!
I have TONS of recipes bookmarked on my computer and torn out of magazines, but I probably only cooked about 10% of them. It’s bad!! 🙁
Haha that’s better than me, I cook 0% of them!
First off, congrats on your progress on your goals! Good for you for looking into freelance work 🙂
I’m so guilty of pinning delicious pinterest recipes and not making them. I actually made a lot of pinterest recipes this summer but since school started, I’ve had little time for cooking and baking experiments ;( sad day haha
I’m currently rereading Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Love it!
As for strength training, I’m currently taking a TRX class one day a week, and then one of my gyms strength training classes another day and doing my own circuits based on what i learned from a trainer 1 or 2 other days a week
Oh I’ve always wanted to take a TRX class, and I read Wuthering Heights a couple years ago and enjoyed it!
I don’t remember the last time I made a recipe I found on Pinterest. I have a board full of about 100 recipes and I forget about them haha I like your goal of making 2, that seems realistic.
Haha let’s just hope it happens! Luckily I’ll be making one for book club tomorrow!
I’m actually really good about using recipes that I have on Pinterest. I used to keep all of my “to-make” recipes in a folder on my computer, but I realized that it would make way more sense to just pin them all. So when I’m making my meal plan for the week, I always try to pick at least one new recipe to try from my boards.
That’s great! I need to be more regular about going to my board and picking out recipes to make each week before grocery shopping!
Love reading your blog, as always! I don’t think I have ever commented before but it is always a great read. As far as pinterest goes, I am addicted to pinning food and NEVER make any of the recipes! So, I guess I have a similar goal, ha ha. Good Luck!
Thank you for reading, Hannah! Haha and I hope you make a couple pinterest recipes too!
Nice job on getting more strength training in! I love Jillian’s workouts too. I need to be better about getting in strength workouts though – they’re so important!
I have had to remind myself a few times to go check my Pinterest boards if I am looking for a new recipe. It takes some getting used to, but is really nice to have a board of all the things I want to make, then I don’t have to go searching when I want to try something new.
I just need to be better about going on to pinterest and picking something out! That’s great that you do that!
To help you achieve goal #3 you should have a Pinterest Party! I had one last year & it was a success. Each friend brought the recipe & ingredients/materials for a recipe/craft they wanted to make. It ended up being a great mix of drinks, food, & crafts!
I teach BodyPump so that’s how get my strength training in. Best job ever!
That sounds like such a great idea! And I’m DYING to try a Body Pump class!!!
Great goals here! Now that I have finished studying I’m getting back into reading too, I love it. I hope March is fantastic for you.
Thanks, Jemma! And I’m glad you’ve been able to read more for fun now!
